There are several different articles about it including one from theStreet. If you choose that one i suggest reader mode because there are so many ads.
    Contains the following quote

So what I see(I don’t really know anything abt options) is that no one has a true definitive answer about what would happen in the hypothetical scenario of a 30 day halt? Also is a 30 day halt really something that could happen?

Yeah, I read that. I also consider it a hard pass because it's from an OIC rep with no reference to any actual rule. I've looked all over for the actual rule regarding options during a trading halt and I can't find it. If you go to the OIC and search "halt" you get nothing. If you search for the rules they are vague at best with a lot of wording along the lines of "regulatory discretion".

    https://res-certification.cboe.com/resources/regulation/circulars/regulatory/RG92-040.pdf

The rest of the rules I could find are for cash settled securities. Which equity options in the US aren't.

    https://www.sec.gov/rules/proposed/s71501/silver1.htm

    https://www.sec.gov/rules/final/34-45956.htm

So I'm not sure there is indeed a ruling on this at all.

So, AMC meeting coming up... I have not read much into it but voting on giving raises to executives, adding 35m more shares, seems like some back stabbing going on from AMC.

I believe it's 500m, which will completely kill any chance of a squeeze(my opinion) . However, they will be on sale. I've seen where people think it will make AMC a bargain deal for a share bid by Amazon or Netflix.

What is the appeal for Amazon or Netflix to acquire AMC? Seems like a step backwards to me. The future is streaming. Theaters will die out. Would make more sense for Netflix or Amazon to acquire a studio for exclusive streaming rights in order to compete with Paramount or WB that exclusive stream on Paramount+ and HBO Max. There’s no value in acquiring a theater chain for a company that is already established in the streaming game

The thought is they can play their exclusive movies there. Any one with a prime membership would not have to buy a ticket. Again, just pure speculation but that is the idea I've seen floating around.

Personally I only have prime and don't plan on getting Hulu or Netflix. I don't have the time to watch those shows. It's also why I'm content with cable.

So the theory is I could leave my house and go to a theater to watch a Netflix or Prime original? For me - that has absolutely 0 appeal. For one - I’ve never watched a streaming original movie and afterwards been like “man that could’ve been a theatrical release”. They go straight to Prime or Netflix for the exact opposite reason. They aren’t good enough for that kind of distribution. I can’t name a single streaming original movie that was that kind of quality or appeal. Shows are a different story, but I’m also not going to go to a theater to just to watch an episode of Stranger Things. I will choose my couch anytime over a dirty theater  I love going to movies but the only appeal is being able to see the movie ~3mos before it is available at home.

That relationship benefits AMC, not the others. They would gain customers who buy concessions where movie theaters make their money. If Prime or Netflix got a piece of that, ok maybe that make sense, but I won’t believe they will go all in on acquiring a company on the off chance they make a profit off popcorn sales...

And as far as my own streaming options. We have way too many, BUT we only pay for Hulu, Disney+ (Those are bundled), and Prime (only because we have a prime membership for shopping). We also have AppleTV+ (got a free trial with a new iPhone almost 2 years ago and they keep extending the trial without charging me), Netflix (my parents gave me their password), HBOMax (my father in law “gave” me his password), and his password also works for all the other networks too so I can access Showtime On Demand, Starz, etc., etc... That said, HBOMax is hands down the best of the bunch. Their original shows are great, and the movies so far haven’t been half bad either. Since it’s WB studios, you’re actually getting theatrical release level quality vs. a straight to home video quality like Netflix, Prime, or even Hulu movies.

Yes, but that's in addition to regular movie premieres as well. Is it worth it for a streaming service to purchase AMC? I honestly don't know. I'm guessing the numbers would have to be crunched to determine that. And don't forget, it's the largest movie chain in the world.

I stream pretty much everything as well, but that's mainly because there has been nothing good coming out of hollyweird that i've wanted to pay a premium to watch. That said, there are movies i have gone to the theaters to watch. And there are people that LOVE the theater, not to mention date nights. And as content creators themselves, Amazon/netflix could stream their movies easier. It's also not like theaters have high operating expenses. The highest being their dues to hollywood. It has some potential, but the fact that they're voting on raises for executives... I'm not investing. GME did it right. They took what all said was a fad and used what they had been given in an attempt to turn things around. They hired someone who has experience turning companies around, and are looking at diversifying their services. AMC is like the titanic sinking, and all the captain is worrying about is a bigger hat.

I’m 40, so I remember going to the movies as an experience, more so than just to watch a movie.
I stopped going to the movies over a decade ago because it got expensive, and a crap shoot as far as it being a decent movie, so I feel a certain way about theaters dying.
I’m also aware enough to know that there is a subsection of young kids who go see every Marvel movie 10 times.

So I’m kind of conflicted by my own personal views.

Personally, I think if you’ve ever gone to a screening of something like The Goonies in the last 10 years, you’ll realize that theaters aren’t going anywhere.

They may evolve but I think it’ll be around for a long time.

I'm fortunate to live in a town that still has the original theater from back in the day. They have done their best to keep up with times with expanding to 3 screens while keeping the original artwork and decor in the original screen. I do enjoy the experience of the movie theater. Ours is not that expensive. 8 for one adult ticket and 7 for the matinee. At that price I don't mind splurging for the biggest bucket of popcorn they have. I haven't been in a while due to the pandemic and really, there hasn't been shit I want to seen. I'm not into the super hero movies (except Deadpool). Everything else has been blah.
