Like the one boob that hangs a little further than the other, I could have over looked all the bullshit that went wrong, but 3-4 times on a fuel pump recall and the bullshit that followed is hard to ignore.

My Tacoma was a lemon. I've owned some needy cars, including a Cooper S. I don't think it's acceptable to have as many issues as I did in 4k. Results might vary.

Could be a weak seal on the gas cap. Mine did this after I installed a radmoto locking cap. Ended up with a stant cap that's worked well for the last couple of months.

But would a leaky cap make it loose power. The truck just started to coast down the highway at idle rpm. Then after about 30 seconds the power/rpm came back up and it all seemed ok.

    Normal stuff in my experience:

    - shifting issue, improved with ECU update tsb, fixed with OVTune
    - pass side front diff seal leak, replaced, warranty
    - TSS recall, fixed, warranty
    - low pressure fuel pump recall, replaced, no issues before or since.

    Ha!

I have none of the “TW issues”, so do 2 of my buddies with 3rd gens. I had a TSS recall, squeaky clutch pedal, fuel pump replaced and that’s it.

If you are gonna stay here quit bitching. This is an enthusiast's site, not a sour grapes ex owner site. I respect you trading for something else. Respect the guys who don't have any issues.

My '13 5 lug is dirty. Dirt refuses to self remove.

And it only has 5 lugnuts as opposed to the pre-requisite-to-be-cool 6 lugnuts.

I did have the OE battery poop out 5.5 years from the original in-service date.

    Primarily issues with the driver.
    • Keeps getting older
    • Lost all hair
    • Harder to lose weight - but doable
    • No upgrades available
    • Vision fading but can be synthetic systems keep it at bay
    • Sound system losing sensitivity at higher frequencies
    • Top end speed slowly decreasing (but read Fast After 50 book for tips to maintain)
    • No signs of grumpiness yet but stupid drivers seem to be increasing
    • Other...?

My 3rd gen did a lot of things well, but the community ahem cult, well if you point out the flaws it tends to go over like going against Jim Jones. I'm sure Toyota would love to have YES people in their focus groups, which is why we have the current Tacoma instead of something like a HiLux. I'm still puzzled as to why and how some things made it into production models. A perfect example is NVH and the audio system, someone in the focus group's hearing aids were dead or they were just a yes man.

I'm still happy my former Tacoma held it's value as good as it did.

I'd also like to know how i'm being dis-respectful airing my issues? Did they now happen? Because I have a 10 page service history of problems, fixes and no fixes.

I would like to see how the Hilux would compare if sold side by side next to the Tacoma at the Toyota store.

My truck will lock and unlock itself really fast when I first get into it sometimes. Also had some tranny problems early on but Toyota swapped the whole tranny for free. They said the 35s are probably responsible but they installed them so they fixed it all for free.

My 2016 had a rattle in the sunroof and had the TSB for the Park to Drive shift delay. Otherwise, no issues in 30k+ miles.

My 2017 had some random rattles and it had the howling rear diff. TSB helped, but didn’t solve it. It did some weird shifts here and there as well. 30k+ when I traded it as well.

My 2020 drives great and it’s quiet on the inside. No issues so far. Probably my favorite Tacoma that I’ve had. Only have about 14k on this one so far.

Honestly, I’ve not heard of these common issues mentioned in this thread from people that I’ve talked to outside of TW.
