2005 6spd with 3” lift. I get a rubbing noise when moving and suspension is compressed, cannot identify any tire marks in well. Even does this when turning right as long as there is enough body roll. Doesn’t matter if it’s in gear or not, just as long as the tire is spinning/moving. The deeper the compression the harder it grinds.

Gets really n loud if I try to back up an incline. I did notice it made the noise the moment my clutch engage when backing up a hill, so basically barely moving if much at all... but suspension is compressed. I can’t put it all together.. no one I asked can either.

Tire doesn’t have a wobble or knocking.

Unable to load video. Any tips would be great to upload from iPhone. Anyone savvy enough I’ll send direct.

    Welcome to Tacoma World!

What size are your tires? Have you done any cutting? Removed the mud flaps?

265/75/17. No cutting, I’m 100% positive it’s not tire rub but it sounds like it. It only takes a little compression, like when taking off in reverse. The front end dips enough to elicit the noise.

Well those are larger than stock size. It's probably your mudflaps.

I don’t have flaps... and I have a 3” lift. It sounds like tire rub but it’s not.

What makes you think it's not rubbing? What you are describing sounds like rubbing. Going in reverse will elicit rubbing more than any other condition.

What kind of lift? The spring will still compress just like stock, and doesn't really mean you can fit a larger tire without additional modification.

No dust is rubbed off of the well, it’s only on the drivers side no matter how hard I try to make it happen on pass side. The lift and tires are about 20k miles and just started. If I could upload the video it’s very clear it’s not tire rub.

Well it makes sense it's only on the driver's side. Battery, driver and fuel tank are all on that side.

The only way I know how to upload a video here is to upload it to youtube first and then link it here. Or instagram.

I can’t load it to YouTube for the life of me.

another thing. When backing up an incline the rub frequency does not reflect the speed of the vehicle. Literally sounds like a fan rubbing, I checked my fan. It’s not loose nor is the housing.

Check your heat shields. I had an issue in reverse where my drive shaft would gently tap a piece of heat shield that had been bent

Those tires are 16", not 17" and plenty of people have 265/75/16" tires with no rubbing so you are correct, it's not the tire rubbing.

Can't help with what the noise is though.

Yeah after watching it isn't the tire rubbing. What was that squeal? Have you looked at your brakes? Could it be the dust shield rubbing or rattling?

Does it only happen in these situations (reverse, more so at an incline?) Or are there other situations?

@Ted Yoder good idea, check heat shields. Check around both driveshafts for anything.

I chirped the tires the 2nd time trying to get the front end to dip more

I don’t see any fire shield interference. Brake seems to be fine from what I can tell, nothing loose. Disc cover is solid. Only thing is the axle movement, I’ve read it’s suppose to move some but not sure how much.

    needle bearing shot? Need bushing?

My CVs for sure don't have that much up and down play. Put the truck in 4wd and repeat the backing up process. For science. See if the noise is still there or worse

Does the exact same thing in 4wd, even in turns. No change in pitch. I’m at a loss. Is anything turning in the transfer case when it’s not in four-wheel-drive? Maybe catching the spindle?
