Do you know if there is a way to make the LEDs dimmable?

 

Not sure on that. The lights look brighter in the picture than they actually are

 

I would want to make them dimmer for night time use, perhaps it might be best to reach out to the company.

 

he does have the LEDs in red too. I’d reach out to him. I bet it’s doable.

 

Nice leds i might do the same, I kinda would have liked more solid mounts for the top cap, i can see my rails bending a bit when torquing the bolts to 9ft-lbs. I might need to fab something up

 

Really like the LEDs, would you possibly have a link to where you purchased them?

i may have missed the post but how did you route your wiring? I haven’t done mine yet.

 

agree. i understand for production’s sake it’s cheaper to stick with one size door... but with the premium price they’re asking, they should give you a 6’ door on a 6’ bed. especially since their whole deal – their edge – is the modularity and digital fabrication aspect.

don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade, it’s a nice looking product.

 

The modular aspect is exactly why it makes sense. They have 3 different SKUs for their camp kitchen: A mid size, a full size, and Jeep Gladiator. If they made a different door size for every vehicle, their accessories would probably be built to order rather than ready to ship.

 

to be clear, i didn’t say every vehicle needs a custom door as you’ve inferred. every truck segment has vehicles with very similar bed dimensions: for mid size trucks, one could use a 5’ and a 6’ door design. that’s not asking too much, in fact almost every competitor product to this one does it.

and to prioritize the accessory market *above* the core product? that’s not a good strategy. it’s also not their strategy. is the drop roof rack system one size fits all? no, you can still buy a 5’ or 6’ for mid size. plus... how many people (in this thread for example) have actually bought one of those camp kitchen boxes? it’s a cool feature for some, but what i can only assume is a minuscule fraction of their overall cap sales.

honestly, i don’t even care. i’m making a mountain out of a mole hill by replying. i first saw the smart cap and thought it was a cool innovation in what had been a boring, stagnant market. i followed this thread to casually glean more information. i think it’s a nice looking product, and it seems sturdy and functional according to most reviews here. i don’t love the short doors.

 

I agree with your points. I have been saving up for one of these caps and every time I see a LB version I just think of how the doors are not full size. I certainly would want another 6' bed door option when I go to spend that much on a purchase *if* it was an option.

 

To be fair, I am making assumptions based on my understanding of manufacturing AND my knowledge of products they offer. Philosophically, I agree with you. That said, I don't think they're prioritizing accessories, I think they're prioritizing manufacturability and their approximation of cost (multiple skus require changeover, changeover requires time, time is money (I'll also note that I don't wholly agree with this mindset, but it is the traditional method)). I also don't know what RSI's production looks like and how much control they have over the manufacturing or their supply chain, but those are probably factors in their design choices as well.

Out of curiosity, what competitors are you referring to? Other sheet metal cabs, or are you including fiberglass? Because the fiberglass ones are all made to order from what I've seen, which was kind of my point. I think made to order is the right move, but a 6+ week lead time? No end user wants that.

 

Anybody received the 3 wire T harnesss from RSI for those who have the wiring crossed? Lionel from RSI initially stated he’d sent the 3 wire T harness but later told me to just cut wire, switch, and re-attach after I told him I don’t have an LED tail light. 2021 trd OR.

 

i cut the connector and attached red to blue and black to black/white it worked but i will remove it when the new harness ships
