I think finding out where you are running should be priority one. If it is only rubbing under compression it may be hard to see just turning the wheel while parked. I suggest getting out the chalk. Sidewalk or blackboard chalk works fine (so does mud). Just get something all over anywhere you think might be rubbing then induce the rub. Where there is chalk missing is what you need to address. Almost certainly need to do plastic reshaping and trimming (that hard plastic lip at the bottom has to go). Maybe cut the cab mount... But chalk it up and be sure of what you need.

    The 255 is a better off-road size.
But there is a whole other thread on that alone, so won't go into it here.
Also don't want to make you feel like you must buy more tires. Wait until these are worn, but keep it mind.
Good luck with finding the answers you need for the rub.

Definitely would like to do that, have to wait for the sloppy mess outside to dry up.

Instead of cutting chopping the truck up, just go to the alignment shop, have them align the truck (probably should do that for new tires anyway), and request they give you as much caster as the stock components will allow. this will move the front wheels forward just enough to stop the rub. 255/85r16 typically has more contact patch off-road because it has taller sidewall, so it flexes/bulges more when aired down to low psi which gives it effectively a wider contact patch. In almost every situation off road 255/85r16 is a superior tire to 285/75r16. Don’t take my word for it though, spend some time researching and seeing what everybody says.

Great tire size, but terribly limited tire selection and high cost due to such a limited selection.

Yea, it mainly comes in serious off road tire options, not the most friendly for a daily driver commute vehicle. If you’re looking for a more street friendly tire, look elsewhere I guess. Like I said, off road is where it is superior, not in wide selection of affordable street friendly options.

That’s the very reason I didn’t go with the tall skinny’s. Only like 4 to choose from

    Yeah,
I noticed that tires are almost exclusively MT's.

However the 17” version 255/80/17 has a few a/t options

Yeah, noticed that they had some better AT options, but still expensive and very limited in options.

These tire sizes remind me of the old military vehicle tires that were tall and narrow and they worked very well for those vehicles. Everyone always wants wider and wider.

But less sidewall, which is one of the big advantages for the 255/85r16 since it needs that sidewall to flex under low pressure and give more contact patch. Less sidewall => less contact patch

It also only takes about 10 min and a heat gun to flatten out the remaining fender liner after trimming that bottom lip/corner off. Should be the first thing to do when adding larger tires, very quick and easy.

I agree. I’m still debating on getting some 17” wheels, since they would open up a much larger variety of tire than my current 16’s. I’d love to be able to get a 33” tire that isn’t E Load!
