Looks like it's a bit busy in there. Would've it helped if you used these two terminals?

Going to clean it up a bit, definitely. The main goal was to get it in. I wish the main posts were pushed further back and those "auxiliary" terminals were spaced further apart. I have a couple of other things to do on the negative side to clean it up a bit. I had to space the terminals around those auxiliary terminals so nothing was touching potentially causing issues.

Timing was against me yesterday and a few other things needed tending to.

just gotta work the occasional removal into the routine. I get at it once a month. I keep a recovery point in the hitch as well. There’s a road by my house I travel a daily and there’s often someone that got a bit too wide and gets sucked in the drainage ditch. Poorly engineered road. I like being able to throw a strap on there and not have worry about getting a shackle and pin out. And I like having something in the hitch.

good to know about that fix with the pipe, tho.

I get it, I run a beaver tail (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004K23KQ0/) for three reasons - 1) a step into the bed, 2) a lashing point for any recovery straps, 3) a radiator stopper if I get rear-ended.

I take my hitch lock and over-coat the locking tab and key hole with grease every six months or so. Just recently I noticed the weather cap popped off the key end, so I wrapped it in butyl tape to seal it with the grease inside.

I used a 1.25" pipe and snapped that old lock right off. Those things are completely useless if it's that easy to bust 'em. My hitch assembly is getting rusted so I plan to take it off this summer sometime and paint it up.

yup. Like bike locks...they protect you from the impulsive/opportunist, not from the pro.

Thing is even with a good lock, that shackle is simply threaded on there....

unfortunately we can say that about a lot of the sh*t we put on our trucks. I was looking at my softtopper last night thinking that any dude with a 9/16" wrench and a corolla could be on their way in about 8 minutes with no damage done to the top....
