    Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

I experienced a pretty catastrophic failure in my differential yesterday and was curious if the Gen 2 TRDOR has a history of this. I was out camping with my family in the Tonto National Forrest and wasn’t beating the rig. Tried backing up when I sat my bumper/hitch on top of the rock. Was pretty heavy as we were fully loaded up to head home. Was able to limp the rig to a family members house in 4 high. Already ordered parts and am hoping to have it back together by Friday!

Side note I am now looking at lifting the rig. Any shop recommendations? I am looking at a OME BP51 with bypass.

Thank you for input on the differential.

No that is not a common issue. Usually you will break a few teeth off, not break the gear in half like that.

Yoo said you ordered parts to fix it yourself? Did you order a whole new differential or just the gears? If you ordered just the gears and have never done gears before I would strongly recommend not doing this job yourself. The ring and pinion need to mesh properly of you will have excessive noise, heat, and premature failure of the new parts.

I actually ordered it from Toyota complete. The whole differential. I needed plug and play.
I wouldn’t even know where to begin on rebuilding it. My father helped me disassemble the truck. It’s super messed up not sure any thing in my diff is salvageable. It’s just a trophy piece now.

Smart choice. Just wanted to check before you made any potentially bad decisions. Swap the new one in and depending on how bad things are in that one you could try to sell. I just got $300 for mine but everything was fine other than the gears. You may have done some more damage getting that off the trail and home

Just learned that Bondurant High Performance Driving School has been replaced with Radford Racing School.

Sounds like it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows at Bondurant, so maybe this will be an improvement.

Hey so i dont normal post i this thread. So i apologize if its the wrong area. I was trying to get ahold of one of the mods @Daria to message her on behalf of phesser "darrel "who was banded for a month for posting a political picture as his avatar. To see if it could be shorter ect. Seems kind of excessive to me.
    Thanks for your help

Probably depends on whether it's his first offense or not or what, but the AZ thread has a history of issues in regards to following the "No Politics" rule, so it's kinda understandable.

    No politics means no politics.

EDIT: And it should be noted that this policy has been around since 2009, so it's not as if it's reactionary to anything recent. Political discussion turns nasty when you can't see a person face to face.

We understand that many think a month is excessive but politics is a firm 30 days. I think the COC was updated with the clarification a while back and the politics rule has been in the COC and enforced for well over a year, maybe two.

Avatars convey just as much as words. So no political avatars. What’s that phrase... a picture is worth a thousand words.

im really curious about how this happened, can you explain a little more?
is it safe to assume you where in 4lo with rear locker engaged?
did you just slam the shifter into reverse and it went BOOM??

Yes, I am happy explain the situation a bit more. I did engage the locker. In hindsight I wish I would not have done this. The picture does not convey very will how my tail end drug. I tried to reposition and when I applied the gas it broke. My first though was I blew my u joint. Sadly it was not an overly technical location and if I was running empty I think I would have been alright. There are plenty of things I would have done differently such as not go that way as heavily loaded as I was.

The space I was dropping down into was sand on the front tires and rear (locked and 4lo) on the solid rock. Hitch was sat on the rock and scraped off quite a bit of material. I have no lift and 31" tires so not a ton of ground clearance so I was trying avoid hitting and of the sensitive areas since I do not have underbelly armor. I did not slam on the gas. But once it popped I did have to go forward to get out. Which is probably what made the situation worse.

I hope this is the detail you are looking for. I grew up off-roading in the Pacific Northwest where its almost entirely soft loose dirt. Here in AZ its a little different. Learning how to handle the rig differently.

Has anyone installed a winch and relocated the solenoid? I have the winch mounted to the bumper and realized I need to do so. Kinda stuck on best way to go or what to do next. Looking into the relocation kit for ease

I know there's some JDM guys in here so, what do you guys think about the 300z videos that have been going around. I think It needs a different diffuser in rear, and a different grille/No grille to expose a FMIC. Overall I think its a win. Factory boosted rear wheel drive with a 6 speed and an interior that's not built in the same factory as Legos. MSRP is going to be around 45,000 for base model which is roughly 5 grand less than the lowest trim a90 Supra that has the 6 cylinder.

I am so sorry to hear shit went bad. It sounds like "it'll buff out" with a little effort. Let us know if we can help in any way. Maybe we can find some of the pillows you like so much. Be careful and know good vibes coming your way.
