Lol yeah I calculated it out not too shortly after owning it and tires how much I'd get. So I run it low and burn up the shirt fuel at the bottom often

    She's expensive, even in az

    This.

Do a 40 Amp 240v setup so you can get a Hobart 210 or 190 in there.

I despise industrial ethernet communications networks.

    That is all.

Just BS with a PLC communicating with a touch panel just fine one day, then powering up the next day and getting comm errors. Change the enet cords around on the switch and it works fine. :notsure:

Im using a junky walmart switch while Im programming, the one that will go in the panel is about 5x the price so I shouldn't have that issue. Took me 4 hours to get the panel talking to the PLC in the first place...

Figured Ethernet would be more broadly and widely used in Automation, huh.

It is. But across all the brands of controllers Ive dealt with its an absolute PITA to set up. And every instructor/programmer Ive met has agreed to that. I guess no manufacturer has reached a good way to set it up yet.

Id rather use serial RS232/RS485 as you typical dont run into comms issues as much. Just plug it in, set the baud rate and youre good to go. Just so happens though that serial doesnt do so well over distance, and this particular application has the touch screen about 30' from the main cabinet.

I thought RS232 was basically extinct now, that's good to hear they're still being used.

Oh yeah its still used. If Im doing a touch panel on the same cab as the PLC is in, its my go to comms link if the devices permit it.

Is the switch managed? If not that's annoying, if it is. You should be setting reservations by MAC address

I keep a Pentium machine from the mid 90's around in case I need to plug something that used GamePort or RS232.

    What are you studying?

To keep mine organized for professors I usually try to color-code columns and translate those colors over to graphs as well as label the graphs because that is most of what I use it for along with doing repetitive calculations on data. Any answers I highlight in green and it is pretty easy to add an equation in merged cells or a text box near the answers if your teachers want it.

Adding multiple pages for different sections helps clean up data and you can still use data from earlier pages in equations on later pages.

Whenever I don't know how to do something usually google can give you a quick answer. If something seems cumbersome usually there is an easier way to do it that you can find on google.

Not managed. Really no need as once my PC is taken out of the picture those two things will be the only things on the network.

Everything I deal with is on ethernet now too, although there's a few serial devices hanging around - which are promptly connected to ethernet converters if they matter. I don't really struggle with it, but I know people that do. We had a big to-do last week because some of our boxes were dropping off the network 30 minutes after boot, because some customer unchecked a box that he didn't understand, the one labeled 'Automatically Connect'. *sigh*

Do those plc devices at least autodetect so you don't need a crossover cable if you plug them in direct?
