I didn't put a level on it but confirmed it being flat by shining the lights on my garage door. I used only one screw as well, however I used the lower mount, not the upper one. I did the top one first based on recommendation however that is what was throwing it off level. The whole assembly fits much better behind the factory plastic bezel. This is what worked for me so I'm going with it. I'll take a picture or two tonight for comparison.

There are the allen screw heads on either side of each SS3. Loosen them slightly and you'll find that there's quite a bit of play/maneuverability for proper aiming.

No sir. Assuming you have the SAE fog pattern follow this photo and you'll be GTG.

The top picture was taken tonight. The only side to side adjustment I made was remounting the fog with the single screw on the bottom tab mount opposed to the top tab mount like in the bottom picture. No adjustment was made to the side screws, however it probably would even flatten it more. I doubled checked the aim height too and it's pretty close to where it needs to be.

The brackets are side specific, maybe you have them flipped.

Perhaps, but it's working now. Can you tell by the picture in post #4729 if it appears to be flipped? This light was on the driver side. I just don't see how they could work any other way than how I mounted them.

My truck had taco lean. Now I am questioning whether using the upper mount just countered the taco lean to level the lights despite the tilted truck, whereas if your truck is level (without taco lean) maybe the lower mount is the correct one to level the lights with a level truck. Hmm.

Edit: No. This can't be right, since the lower mount caused my level to go up to the driver side. If it was Taco lean it would have gone up to the passenger side. Disregard.

I may very well have installed them wrong, but they still turned out right. If I flipped the mounts and switched them to the opposite sides using the top screw mount, it probably would equate to the same thing. Just a thought.

First off, thank you for putting together and maintaining a thread with so much useful information. I read way too much of it and gained a lot of knowledge about lighting in general.

I was set on yellow SS3 Pros for my Outback, but after the storm this weekend I have a question about the performance in whiteout conditions during daylight hours. Will the increased output and selective yellow give me any better contrast of the road surface and snowbanks? Driving home Sunday on I70 I could barely make out the line between the "plowed" road surface and the drift on the side of the road, but am unsure if these would help given that it wasn't dark out yet.

yes the lighting that is closer along the ground (fogs) will reveal more variations in the road (pot holes, plowed areas, rocks, dips, etc).

Auxiliary lighting placement is key and each serve a purpose

but in the daytime? these lights cannot over power daylight. not even pros/max

Welcome! As pointed out above, fog lights will not overpower daylight, that just isn't possible, so they won't help with what you are asking. I've driven in those white out conditions in the daytime. No amount of light output will help you navigate the roadway in broad daylight during a whiteout. However the Pros and Max will help other vehicles see you in those conditions, the Sports may get covered in snow and become ineffective.

Lol yes sir!!! I’ll give my wife your user id. She’ll be contacting you. J/K
But seriously I had no idea about light cut off and the popper use of a fog light. I knew the amber vs white was a better choice. Thanks to this post I understand the more about the yellow colors not amber also light cut off. Right now I have the Cali raised fog lights. They are just a ball of light absolutely no cut off. Did not work in fog. The light bounces back like a high beam, there pretty bad. But cheap. So I’m gonna step right over all that and go with the max‘s.

Good call on the Maxes. Compared to your Cali products you are going to be blown away at the difference of the best performing fog, vs a poor performing product falsely implied as a fog replacement.

Did you see the very beginning of the original post where this was specifically covered, with output examples? Cali does not produce fogs and misleads people to buying the wrong products with their poor marketing. Definitely not going to be effective in fog, and not street legal as it will blind oncoming drivers. I've created this thread to educate people from making this very mistake and bring light the importance of paying attention to functional beam patterns, as well as evaluate what the best performing SAE fogs are.

A fog should provide a very wide beam pattern with sharp cut offs to aid in finding the edge of the roadway in poor weather while minimizing the light above the horizon to prevent light from reflecting back at the driver or blinding oncoming drivers.

Example: Which light will help you find the edge of the road in poor weather?
