How many keys did you get?

Picked up my 2021 TRD offroad in Feb with smart entry.
Got 2 smart fobs with the press release key and 1 valet key.

 

I reached out to them and they said they asked the managers and they didnt have more than what they gave me. They said what they gave me is what Toyota gave them

 

You should get 2 keys for sure. Toyota was short keys for a while but should be ok now.

 

Can you post a pic of the valet key so I can send my sales guy

 

Might have, but the "valet" key is a useless leftover. The 2016 trucks for whatever weird reason had a differently keyed tailgate. That was what that key was for. Starting in 2017 the tailgate matched the door lock.

 

I wish I got a valet key.

 

So some 2021 Smart key equipped trucks are getting 2 fobs and + 1 valet, and some are not?

Maybe I am confused

 

I'm betting its a case of dealer misplacement.

They should come with the mechanical key, but not everyone sees it as an important part. I'm admittedly in that camp, the key just collects dust in my safe. My hidden fob key does the exact same job.

 

Valet key opens door and is chipped so the truck can run but won’t open the glove box, it’s good for like valets and stuff.

I think people used to have hide them in the vehicle for remote starters to work (chip proximity sensor) not sure if that’s necessary anymore.

 

On what trim? Valet keys can't start the push button.

 

I have an OR AT (push button). Also just went and checked my spare fob and I don’t have a valet key - lol my bad. I do have my spare ARE topper key on there though and it looks like a valet key, but I’m guessing that won’t start the truck

I was going to take the valet key out to my truck in the rain for science, but since I don’t have one either, I can’t.

My 2021 MT came with 2 regular H keys. No fobs and no valet key. But clear something up for me. By "fob" do you mean a "smart key" ? I didn't think that manual transmission trucks had pushbutton start, and that therefore they did not have "smart keys." Maybe I'm misinformed.

 

Picked up 21 TRD-OR Manual a month ago. Came with two keys, both with lock/unlock/panic buttons.

If your dealer initially said you're getting two, then later said "no they only come with one", that's some shady bullshit.

Those keys are a couple hundred $ each, and I'd bet the dealer lost the other one and is trying to play it off like the truck only comes with one.

Call him on the bullshit. You're entitled to two keys.

 

2019 - Two Fobs, one Valet key.

You're right as the MT does not come with the push button. I meant key fob as in the key with the fob built into it.

 

What does your valet key look like? I could swear I got one maybe I put it in my box of other keys, not on my spare fob.

 

Well we are in the same boat. My 2021 SR5 came with the same set , was told the same thing I'll get you one, than.... Got a call back and was informed that the vin # calls for 1fob 1straight key, everyone said got 2fobs, doesn't matter it's what the vin states. called a different dealers parts department and the parts person stated it was the first time he's seen it. But the vin is the final call. Posted a week ago.
