They have the same size ring gear as well the difference is the non elocker has more carrier support so less deflection.

No spring perches? Do they leave those off in case you want to weld on something specific?

I've only broken Detroit carriers so far. But they are covered by warranty so they go back in.

No, the 8.8 from third gens have a larger ring gear, beefier pinion shaft and axles. Kinda beefed up in all the important places. You may have been referring to the 8.4 which is a misnomer really and still uses just an 8” ring gear but yeah, it’s stronger than the 8” elocker diff because of the carrier bearing trusses

Yes that is true but considering the guy has a '15 I was assuming he meant the 8.4 and not the 8.4. Since getting the new 3rd gen elocker anytime is a pita unless you get the MT open version and swap to an ARB or something. Even those I haven't really heard much of breakage but the 2nd gen elockers all the time it seems stock or not.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Yeah, lot of pretty gnarly setups in here. I too snapped multiple rings on 4.88, 8.4 with ARB, S/C. D60 now, 4.88, Ox locker from Tim, The....Holy Hand Grenade. No issues now.
