Got it - I bet the same cap will work as long as the inner dims are all similar (not sure). I'd imagine you won't have to worry about the flange overhang though if that's what it looks like (no tie down rails)

Nice. You have decent battery storage then. How much does it draw ? You have inverter ? At 12V draws 16A?

EDIT: Durrrr, not paying attention. I see the battery you're using.
How long does it last on that?

it does not so it prob doesn't matter. I told him to add them for fun. but now that I think about it. I think @frenchee should add the rails just because.

I'm interested in seeing how they attach the camper to our first gen beds. GFC has a fairly good system. See link below. They attach the bottom piece seen in the photo to the standard upper piece with a bolt. The bottom piece has a lip that curls under the inner edge of our bedrail. Tighten it up and it's solid. Actually looks more solid than the 2nd/3rd gen rail system. Also, as we don't have a shark fin I'm not worried about how much lower our rails are than the 3rd gen. I want it as low as possible without grinding the cab top. Saying this because that spacer on the 2nd gen looks kind of rinky-dink, and I don't want one if I don't really need one.

yah that spacer is odd. No shark fin for me but trying to make what’s left of my rack somehow.

at this point with the unknowns I would just remove your rack, plug the mounting holes and wait until you get back home with the camper to chop it down.

I feel you brother. I didn’t wanna rag on the spacer, but yeah would def be a little sad if I had to run one. Not a fan lol.
Those GFC clamps are dope. Sounds like we clear the cab, so I imagine SP figured a way to clamp it to gen 1s!

I'm going to cut it this week. its now or never for me. (plus I think one mounting hole is cross-threaded so not taking the chance on that one. I got some good photos and have a good plan. I'm not going to cut it off but rather shave down up to about the tents point down an inch or so. so will be a full half rack if it makes sense.

Is there a photo anywhere of the SP X1 attachments? For any Gen. Seem to remember seeing one a while back.

yeah it’s on here somewhere. Some sheet metal clamp with a long bolt. Looks a little funky. It works but yeah might not be the prettiest. I’d have to dig it up.

Woke up at 5 thinking about this. Found the photo. Actually looks to me like a version of this clamp with the same hook on the bottom would work well on a 1st Gen bed rail.upload_2021-3-23_5-36-38.jpg

Been lurking on here and have read lots of pages, but haven't seen one piece of info. Can you walk on the roof of the camper while it's closed? Thanks for any insight.

The short answer is.... it’s probably not recommended. But..... it really depends on how much you weigh I guess.
I’ve stood on it but I wouldn’t make a habit of it. The lid is a polypropylene sheet, it’s probably pretty strong. I realize I’m not actually answering your question, but there’s a bunch in the wild now. I’m sure you could get one of us to meet up if you wanted to check it out.
I think Alu Cab is the only one with a lid you can actually party on top of.
