A chainsaw incident the other day, whatever thread, it made me think of worst industrial accident I've seen. Machine shop guy polishing hydraulic cylinder in lathe. Almost everyone got a turn at that job at one time or another....but anyway the part and sandpaper would build heat so he put a glove on...
It ripped off three fingers, pinky to middle and just left flaps of skin at the knuckles. Two compound fractures in his arm, when they pulled the glove out of the chip pan, it had tendons hanging out of it. They couldn't reattach any of those fingers.
    Be careful out there.

    Worksmen Comp !!

Is what happens when you follow the Posted Rules !!

I was pushing a Hypertherm 1650 on wheels one of the rear wheels fell off my right arm taking the shock of the weight .

I ask my Shop Foreman what to do He says Contact our HR / Book Keeper ( Later convicted of Embezzlement)

He instructs us To Go to the My Doctor and say it is a Workmens Comp claim. I got a ton of paper work a few phone calls from the provider.

The owner just about had a Cow but since we followed procedure I did get a few extra paid days off.

In all my days that was my only interaction .

No workers comp, just unemployment when my boss cut me down from 40 to 24 hours.

I ended up making more that summer sitting at the park watching my kids play t-ball than if I'd been at work.

One of my bosses friends wanted a job, he came here and was running the manual mill. He tried to brush some chips away from the end mill and it took the end of his finger off. Boss man was gone so I carried him to the doctor. He never did come back.

I remember when I had my end mill incident the lady at the doctor office ask my boss if we drug test. I spoke up and said you can pull a hair out of my neck depending on how far you need to go back, never have done drugs. She dropped it.

Brother-In-Law got lucky; was using a rag to clear some chips off a part in the mill, end mill caught the rag and just cut a couple of fingers up some, not terribly bad. I always say, that's why they have a off/on switch and a brake. He knew better, and got lucky.

I just realized as Kurt and I are cutting this part I’m the only one here every morning for at least an hour, sometimes 2-3 until my boss or coworker gets here. Got to be careful :D

I have used this fix over the years !!

I did find that the Snap On Dead Blow Hammers the Plastic when older does not like the cold.

My dealer would have given me a new one but it is all Steel under the Plastic I think one of my Favorite Hammers of a smaller size.

Let’s see if we can get this welded together where it’s lined up and straight.

That is kinda how I started at 0300 My Boss both of us closing in on 65 years old.

He has a bad back when one morning I find him on the floor in the unheated warehouse on a frosty morning below Freezing of course him just stepping out to look quick at something dressed for the Hot 70 Degree Office with the Extra Heater blowing on him

He would have been on the Floor for 3 hours till the next employee showed up.

He has to be the tough guy he knows better .

Hmm, small preventive maintenance job this AM, then wait and check our work from yesterday. My partner this morning...think I might need to light a fire under his butt.

Knee from jumping from a dock into the back of the truck. Shoulder from holding on to door handle and my wet feet slid out from under me. My back was from slipping on some steps in the snow.

    A thing or two...
I've had 2 work comp claims. Both for hand injuries.

First was for the pinky and ring finger on my right hand. Smashed them between a couple of 4 ft tall gas bottles that fell. Popped both fingers open like grapes near the first joint and fractured the bones. That was 2.5 months off work because my employer had a no light duty policy.

Second was for the middle finger on my left hand. Dropped a big aluminum plate on it. We were loading into the back of the work truck and my finger didn't get out of the way fast enough when we set it down. Broke the bone on that one too, but I wss at a different employer, so no time off other than doctor visits.

To me the worse thing is because I am a morning person or start of shift person to me when I start is morning

I like getting started getting stuck and working with a person that hits the peak about an hour after lunch after coasting all morning tends to make me cranky

35 years of factory work I've been pretty lucky. 1st job at a furniture factory I did cut my leg with a cutter while setting up to run drawer fronts. Doctor stuck a steel rule in the cut, 3/4 of an inch deep. Still have some pain in that spot at times. I did have find a coworkers finger tips he lost in a lathe turning chair legs. Current job, almost 27 years been lucky considering all the sharpe tooling I work with.

We had a guy at work that got his wedding ring caught on some shelving and pulled his finger off. We all got breakaway rings after that.
