I no longer feel weird about owning one tractor on a little under 2 acres. :anonymous:

I have no idea on the backhoe but it is 16 inches wide and I've been able to dig some big stumps out. The mechanical thumb is by far a must have on these. I've taken down about 40-50 trees so far with it (under 8 inche diameter) and cleared a full acre. Biggest benefit is moving of dirt and gravel and shaping the land. I mean really.....planted 12 6 ft trees in 2 hours w little back pain!!! Lol
Pic of shed pad and eventual expansion I did.

That's a good size, then. Some of them that I've seen are only like 8 inches wide and it's like "what's the point?"

I have been catching up with this thread and will be going w a dual axle 14ft trailer for hauling tractor to friends/family as needed. Using my tacoma 2020 turd pro. It lacks power so instead of another vehicle.....supercharged it! No issues now!

I feel weird. I have over 20 acres at my cabin plus my house and I only have 1 tractor, and a small 12.5 HP one at that. My tractor to acreage ratio is severely lacking according to this thread.

    Thanks jerks.

    Tractor envy....
The reality, mine was supposed to be gone 8 years ago, was bought to take care of some grading and landscaping on my acre lot. It would have been cost prohibitive to rent multiple weekends, with delivery and pickup. That it came with a mower deck was the selling point. Now I can’t let it go. 4wd mower and the loader and box blade have just been to handy over the years. The Swiss Army knife I never knew I needed. At that, the repair costs have been minimal compared to consumer grade riding mowers I had previously. The most expensive purchase on my machine has been the rear tires a few weeks ago. I expect I won’t have to do that again, the previous were 23 years old and starred separating internally.

Yeah, but if I'm going to spend the $$ to upgrade my tractor with a backhoe, it'd better be a USEFUL backhoe.
I mean, daily rental on a compact excavator around here is like $250 a day, and they're a lot more capable at digging holes & trenches, popping rocks, or uprooting stumps. Upgrading a compact tractor with a backhoe runs around $7-9k, depending on the brand. So all other factors (fuel, depreciation/resale, wear & tear, convenience, etc) you could rent an excavator 30 times before you broke even on buying a backhoe.
So if you're paying for the convenience of having one, it should be one that's practical. :notsure:

I love my tractor, I honestly consider it to be peak Japanese engineering. I built a 4' box blade last year and bought a pond scoop recently to go with my pole and brush hog. I have the steel laying next to my garage to build my loader, I just need to get 2 more cylinders and hydraulic hoses to get started. At some point I will add to my tractor fleet as that is the rule it seems, but I probably will never sell my B4200, it's just too perfect all around. For bigger tasks it just lacks weight and lifting capacity. Makes it great for around the house as it can fit almost anywhere and it's easy to haul.
