I do same workouts as ever, I try to go heavy** (for my conditioning as of now.)
Also these plans fall apart often, but I "try" to stick to it. It works out perfectly maybe once every other week.

The cardio aspect of it comes with riding more, I want the power to push this big heavy thing.
I do quick workouts now a days most can be done in 45 mins.

    M - Back / Bis
    T - Night Ride
    W - Legs / Abs
    T - Night Ride
    F - Chest / Tris

Notice Chest is the last thing, that way if a big ride comes up for weekend the legs and back won't be in too much pain.

Yeah I agree but it is still an odd story all around. I don't know what to believe haha
Yeah i've seen the bosu ball used. I've never done that type of exercise though. I think it just adds another level of difficulty to simple exercises.

Also, another weird thing I have done is use one of those hanging boards that rock climbers use. My grip was pretty solid while I was doing that. My workout routine basically disappeared with the rest of my routine last year though...still trying to get back into it...

That's something I need to get is a bosu or balance board.

I also like the idea of the skills with the ball, that could be more of a rewarding game too.

Does anyone have one of those bicycle balance roller trainer things.

It hurts but it's one of those things that you can feel the improvement over time haha. That will be sick though!

I built this pre lumber price hike. It’s about 2” thick and let’s me let go of the deadlift bar if I choose and not damage anything, of course I don’t drop the weight. That’s incorrect form anyways, you pick it up you can lower it too.

Only hands have to be on it. Amount of control doesn’t matter when you actually see the competition. Can still “drop” with hands on it.

just speaking from personal experience at the competitions. An internet article is great, but not always the way it is.

I was a heavy lifter (2.2x deadlift my own weight) but 1 year ago I had AC separation in my shoulder while biking. With all that strength, i'm still lacking endurance on long climbs when my quads are on fire and my lungs are pumping. I think the only way to truly train for biking is to bike a lot. There is little bike benefit when being a heavy lifter. If anything, I don't feel sore after a day of riding. I would just recommend a standard work out regime with emphasis on stretching, deadlifts, squats, calf raises, lower back exercises, and abs.

and adding on to my previous post. A lot of the customers at the bike shop are roadies. Crazy diets, super skinny, with super strong glutes, quads, and calves. They train on bikes.

Good put. Only reason I ask about the working out is because rain stops 99% of my riding locally. For a few days at a time minimum.

Top pink bike comment "All of this could have been avoided if he only used flat pedals!" The debate rages on.

As for workouts, I took the recommendation of a couple on here and have been working through a free trial of Yoga 15. 15 minutes at home each morning and so far I'm pretty impressed. My prior yoga knowledge was very low, so I started out on the 21 day intro course. I may pay for at least a month and do the mountain bike specific course.

The fittest bikers I know ride on a trainer when they can't ride outside. So, to second @I_squared_r, the solution is still to ride a bike.

I personally find that boring so I just try to do whatever I can. Ski touring, running, hiking, body-weight workouts (HIIT, push-ups, pull-ups, squats, lunges, core, whatever I'm in the mood for).

Just need to add in victoria's secret pink or something. ride wearing one of their pants and you're golden!

lolol. Bisis? Around our parts, probably something more mormon related? The Church of Dirt of Latter-day Bikes?

For an average joe that’s just looking to conditioning and strength for cycling, look no further than body weight workouts. At most I’d add some dumbbell or kettlebells for resistance.

Basic pull-ups, push-ups, air squats, and core work can do you right. Add resistance as needed. Most all those movements can be done in some form of HIIT or tabata.

    And stretching or yoga.

Church of Powder Day Saints already stole the idea. One of their shirts got me a lashing from an upset karen in the Provo Smith's a couple years ago.

Riding 6 or 7 days a week is definitely key. But for me the easiest way to do that is a trainer which I also find boring haha. I have been running in place of riding. Now that days are longer I will probably be switching to riding
