Yes, it will work just fine. The additional 3 wires are a power wire, reverse wire and brakes. The other 4 wires have the same function as the flat 4 connection so it will work just fine as long as they're going to the correct pins. I'd be curious to see what the trailer side looks like. I wonder where the additional 3 wires dead end on the trailer itself.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
My friend bought one of those brand new right out of high school. And guess what? It was white!

I’ll ask this here as well..
    Who’s registered/licensed a trailer in NY?
Looking at buying a small camp trailer and I’ve heard NY is expensive to have trailers (seeing a lot of VT registered trailers being pulled by NY registered trucks)
To my knowledge, they need a title, registration (~$14 for what I’m seeing one the DMV site), and a yearly safety inspection

looks like yearly about $40. What am I missing as to why everyone seems to register their trailers in VT?

I loved my cobalt SS turbo. Such a sleeper. Interior was garbage besides the front seats which were recaro's and really good. I had the factory Quaiffe limited slip in mine as well, and the factory GM "stage 1" tune. For fwd (especially at the time) it handled so well with the quaiffe. Throw a big fat sway bar on the back and you could get it rotate really nicely. I regret selling that car, it was was so much fun and ecotech motors are damn reliable.

I'll ask my parents, but I believe you're correct. Registration, title and then the annual inspection. A lot of states don't inspect trailers so that could be a hassle people are trying to avoid.

I had the same thought. I think I do decently well for myself and I couldn't realistically afford that. If I sold my truck and drove something with no payments, stopped putting money into my Roth and savings, and refinanced to a 30 year mortgage, that still wouldn't amount to an extra $2750/month.

Does NY inspect all trailers? In MA, I believe it's only ones with a GVWR of 10k or higher.

when it comes to your kids you do what you have to do, we somehow still manage to save $250-300/mo after all the bills and daycare costs. Working overnights is slowly killing me but you gotta make sacrifices...

I believe the biggest reason people register in VT is to avoid NY sales tax. VT vehicle registrations don't require residency so I believe that means you don't pay their sales tax unless you live there. On a camper trailer it could be a lot of money.

I live right on the border so I probably wouldn't be hassled but I thought it created insurance issues.

Its more the issue of MA getting pissed at not getting their tax dollars than anything

Hey guys! I’m thinking of moving back to Boston after having lived in New Mexico for years.
The southwest is where I got into the tacoma life and dispersed camping.

is there any wheeling and dispersed camping out this way? In Maine, NH, VT, or Western MA?

i dread the idea of having to book a campsite again

NH and ME you could probably just find a spot on a trail and setup shop, I'd assume VT is probably similar. Western MA i think is mostly camp sites

Like 4x4 trails? I was scanning Forest Service maps for the Whites and the Greens and it looks like there arent really many Forest Roads only gravel roads to trail heads? Is there anything like the logging and fire roads you find on National Forests out west in the northeast?

i’m asking because prior to loving in NM I only ever camped at camp grounds and never did any “wheeling” and I’m wondering if my truck build will be useless now if i move back. Just got offered an awesome job back east so now I’m torn on what to do, i love it out west so I’m kind of sad about this job offer...

Definitely less public land out east. Vt has alot of unmaintained roads (i think they are called class iv); new hampshire has unmaintained (class 6 roads); generally closed in the winter because many turn into snowmobile trails. Logging roads up in Maine.

Not quite sure what the real rules are on dispersed camping. We have found spots during multi day runs and have camped without issue but I dont think its exactly legal to camp on a random trail in the national forests (thinking specifically of white mountain national forest). Dispersed camping there tends to be geared towards backpacking and not car camping/overlanding/whatever you call it.

Wondering how your truck build could be useless? I grew up in so cal and by comparison no there's nothing here. However that doesn't mean there's nothing just way less govt land. Lots of stuff in nh, vt and maine and not allowed to drive on most beaches

NH you'll want to find the Class VI roads, you can wheel them and some have clearings you could probably setup on. Western MA is mostly parks, and VT is class V roads I believe. Maine has a ton of logging roads and trails in central and western parts of the state
