The hedge funds have the same information any of those DD posts have, plus plenty of information not available to the average shareholder, plus access to the markets not available to the average shareholder, plus access to the SEC and .gov not available to the average shareholder, plus capital not available to the average shareholder, plus a distinct lack of consequences for breaking the law not available to the average shareholder. This isn't anywhere close to an even playing field.

HF's absolutely got caught with their pants down initially, and got bitten hard. But they now know who they're fighting against and they will win in the long run.

Absolutely it is technically set up for a short squeeze. But I said it a while back similar to your comment; they do not care about the rules. If they stand to make a few billion, they couldn't care less if the fine was 100 million. It's a drop in the bucket.

Y'all need to really watch that video Treeforthider posted. Some of you aren't getting the idea of naked short selling.

It's not that they have to cover some shares over a period of time and they get out scott free. They have to cover an amount of shares that would literally bankrupt them 10s of times over. There is no "out". They dug a hole so deep on this one they might as well forget there's even daylight above them.

Unless retail and the hedge funds on the long side all decide to just sell all of the float for market price right now, and then buy up and sell all the float again, and then do it again...you see where I'm going with this? Hdg r fuk.

Edit: The only winning play was to short GME into bankruptcy. That failed.

I'm an engineer and I like numbers. When I look at all the DD and all the numbers, it just looks like a no brainer to me.

 

Also, it's not entirely un-credible that this market down trend over the last couple weeks is hedge funds shoring up cash they know they're gonna need. Imagine if you hadn't paid your rent for 2 months because you just spent all your money to buy eggs to throw at the old folks home. Now you gotta sell your bike, your TV, your car to pay up. And you'll still probably get evicted because you're a shitty tenant.
