Would be dope putting a little detachable railing and chair up there.
Have a nice little camp bar/lounge with good view, lolzzzz.

You can stand on the Vagabond as well as the Alu-Cab, not sure about the Summit or Atlas. I believe the GFC and the SP use the same composite for the roof, and I personally wouldn't walk on it any more than I'd walk on the roof of my wife's car. I might make it, but it's not designed for that, and I'm heavy. I think the idea is that you mount a roof rack on the side rails to hold heavy objects, not place them directly on the roof.

all good, thx. i just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing something. does it seem like the sheet is glassed? the polypro honeycomb is a core material that needs to be strengthened by skinning the sides so i'm assuming they bag it with glass/epoxy or have a source for pre skinned...

i have 3 kids and having been at this parenting thing for nearly a decade and a half (and also having drunks as friends), i try to foresee as many stupid scenarios as possible and how it can all go sideways. sounds like unless it's a complete failure, i could just get some west systems and some glass and do a fix on the fly.

    thanks

Yea, but the question was about standing on it. Not about mounting a kayak or something to haul. I have sat on it, laid on it and stood on it a few times, no issues with mine but agreed it’s not it’s intended use.

You’re correct, it’s cased in fiberglass sheets of some sort. I drilled large air holes in my “nightstand” sections which are the same sheets as the roof so you can see everything in between. I can shoot you pictures tomorrow if you want.

Hmm. Fix? Not broken exactly. They use composite on purpose, to save weight. As I said, Alu-Cab, Vagabond and others have sturdy aluminum tops. And they weigh more. I think Vagabond even has a photo of someone standing on it. Thought I saw that somewhere. With the GFC and SP and anyone else that uses composite, I'd get me about 4 roof rack bars and a sheet of plywood and let the drunks and the kids boogie.

My girlfriend and I can get up there and there are no issues.
1/8” sheet of 6061 aluminum with a sheet metal brake X pattern across the top provides support as well as an internal 1” aluminum square tubing welded frame underneath.

The SuperPacific and GFC both have the semi-transparent laminated honeycomb composite panel. While you could probably stand on it, I wouldn’t unless you really needed to.

appreciate it russell, but no need. i'm familiar with foam core and glass sandwich construction from boards and boats. not any mysteries and easy to fix if anything goes wrong.

@RangeRick- i mean easy to fix if anything stupid happens from a person or tree or ???. its glass and foam. just some westy and some glass and you're set.

all good fellas. really appreciate the info.

From what I saw at the GFC factory, it’s not a foam core. It looked to be a glass honeycomb.

I swear I'm mature, but that might be the first SP glory hole I've seen.

Do those help reduce the air tension when closing? Decent idea!

    none, yet!
    Hello all!

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm looking for the measurement of the camper for those who already have theirs from the top of bedrails (bottom of camper) to the top of the camper when the tent is closed. I have a stock Gen3 and want to drive around my apartment's parking garage once more to make sure I will have clearance. I wrote down 28 5/8" when I first talked to Spencer back in December and just looking for confirmation here. I tried to give them a ring a few times now but no answer, I'm sure they're busy.

Also- do I need to remove the stock shark fin? Have seen others doing it on this thread but it looked like some of the trucks on SP's instagram didn't so just asking for clarification as my install date is 5-7 weeks out or so.

    Thanks!
