Diamondback SE tonneau for a third Gen short bed- located near Green Bay Wisconsin. Changing to a topper for some more dry storage space for family travels. Been on the truck approximately 15 months- parked in the garage so it’s in as good as new shape.

$1,400 and we may be able to work out meeting- I have a few weeks before the topper comes, so I’m also flexible on timing.

Do you think it would be possible to weld some cross members on the under side to increase load capacity on it, or is the HD version thicker aluminum than the SE?

I ask because uncle has a industrial metal fabrication shop, and I'd get the aluminum cross bars for free, and a professional welder.

I believe the difference is the crossmembers, but I can’t say for sure there isn’t also a difference in the thickness of the aluminum panels too. I’m sure you could beef it up with access to a shop that deals with aluminum, but I’d guess refinishing the top would be necessary when you’re done.

That being said, the SE is pretty beefy and I can’t imagine putting more of a load on the top of a Tacoma than the SE is capable of.

    Thanks!

I was planning on installing something like the Front Runner load bars, with a roof top tent. I already have a setup with some load bars across the bed, and I like the Diamondback for weather/rain/securing gear, but I don't need one at the moment. Why I am hesitant to buy the HD, and if I can get an SE and beef it up for free, then I think that is a win. I wonder if Diamondback would give some input on that if I were to call them..?

Happen to know what shipping might be to GA for that? I know it isn't going to be cheap.

Drive on up, it’s beautiful in Wisconsin in spring! Haha, it isn’t quite yet, but that’s true when things get greener. Zero clue on shipping, and I don’t think that’s something I’m going to mess with. It came on a pallet from diamondback.

Yeah, I wouldn't bother with that. That is a big package, and unless you have the means to easily package that, it is not going to be worth it. I am going to keep browsing fb marketplace.

They sure are nice, so it should go soon!

    GLWS!!!

the HD difference is the crossmembers AND it does use thicker aluminum

SE is more than capable of front runner bars with an RTT. I use this setup

Yeah, Front Runner and a RTT would be no problem the SE. Honestly, the HD on a Tacoma is a waste of money. The SE will support more weight than I’d be comfortable loading onto the bedsides of a composite bed. No way are you going to load something like a four wheeler onto it without bending/breaking something.

As a few people have already mentioned, the SE is more than capable to handle a RTT with the frontrunner crossbar setup. I’ve used this setup for a few trips already and it’s been flawless. My wife, myself, and our two dogs can be inside the RTT without any flex to the SE.

Yes. So someone buy mine please! Willing to meet folks within a few hours of Green Bay, which means meeting people from Minneapolis or Chicago is definitely an option. Swapping from my truck to yours will only take a couple minutes!
