I love my SR5 but this could be a compelling choice in a few years once it proves itself. It will need to be priced under the Tacoma by a few thousand on each trim level to be successful. All Nissans transmission problems have been the CVTs.

Not really a fault of the tranny itself but their strawberry milkshake issues were pretty prevalent on the initial 5 years or so of the 2nd gen Frontier.

To be fair Toyota also had the same issue on its 3rd gen t4r.

I was reading somewhere that this nine spd was designed by Daimler and built by Jatco. I know Jatco cvts have had issues over the years, but this trans is an all new design, so who knows if it will be good or not.

Nissan would be impossibly stupid to put a CVT on a pickup truck. Not sure if that's what you were suggesting, but in any case, a CVT wouldn't be able to perform at the level most pickups operate. Like another poster mentioned, the problems have primarily been w/ Nissan CVT trannys.

Hell, a lot of Subarus have a hard time even driving up & over softball-sized rocks on the trail.

Is the new TNGA platform going to apply to the Tundra, Tacoma & Hilux? If so, that could be pretty sweet.

No I was not suggesting they put a cvt in it. I personally hate those things!

Looks like they literally just copied the bedsides and tailgate from the third gen. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery I guess.

It really does. Even the wheels kinda remind me of the stock OR wheels.

Having bought a 2020 Frontier with the 3.8 and 9 speed trans. I can honestly say that this drivetrain makes the 3rd gen Tacoma drivetrain feel like stepping in dog shit with barefeet where is goes between the toes.

Nissan has a winner and that's some tough shit to swallow. I feel this post belongs here because the redesigned Frontier will have the same drivetrain as my 2020

Could've substituted the Ford Ranger into the above post and it would be accurate as well, yet Toyota continues to sell a quarter million Tacos each year. People buy the 3rd gen Taco despite the shit transmission logic, not because of it...

I came here to post the same video. There's a lot he can't show yet, but at least it's an up close video.

Maybe it's a shell with no engine, like the Ford Bronco that Doug Demuro reviewed

And dealer availability is stated as summer 2022? That's more than a year away. A couple more years and the 4th gen Taco will appear:

Especially considering the power train is already in the current Frontier as of 2020.
