Currently ay 25k on the odo. Fixes so far:

Blew out rear passenger shock. Probably my fault for pushing it, but replaced under warranty.
Made the mistake of letting the body shop "fix" the hood flutter.
Drivers side sun visor disengaged from roof and was replaced.
ECU TSB, Radar and fuel pump recalls
Rear main seal leak and replacement.

The last issue on the list was the only one that I found to be disheartening, but it was fixed under warranty.

In 6 years and 78k miles I’ve had a single window switch fail. That’s it.

My TSS sensor broke after 3k miles and was replaced under warranty. Then a deer ran right into the truck and let’s say that didn’t end well for the truck or the deer...

#5 for sure. I replaced my 2006 Sequoia with the 2018 Taco last month. I back it into a garage. I assumed the surge was from a light truck with big engine. I think I will get used to it. Certainly could see knocking a mirror off.

Also, when starting the truck, it often takes two attempts at cranking the engine before it fires. This is the frist 6cyl Toyota I have had so it might be common.

I don't think that's common bud. I think we would have heard folks on this forum squealing like stuck pigs if that was a common issue.

everything eventually fails whether it is mechanical or electrical. unless you have any hard data there is no reason to believe that any of the sensors and electronics will not outlast the life of the truck.

So far at almost 18k miles the only thing is the rubber seal on the roof keeps flopping off every time I go through a car wash.

I've had Toyota Re-seal it twice.

    (knock on wood)

....and i got a recall for the fuel pump but still waiting on their "fix" for that.

...and I got three screw punctures in the same tire over the course of 6 weeks.

    2017 SR -

Blower motor recall ~ 25k miles
Gauge Cluster Replaced (Under Factory Warranty) - The speedo needle had a mind of it's own. I'd be doing 50 down the road and it would say 90. Or it would bounce around 5-10 mph at a time. They had to order one from Japan, took 2 months to replace.

No one is surprised the engine revs higher to provide more power to counter the draw the steering system has on the system.

People are surprised the engine revs higher than it needs to to counter the draw the steering system has, thus sending excess power to the wheels, causing the truck to unexpectedly lunge.

Can't believe that has to be explained.

LOL - I drive too much to ever finance (plus at my age I'm done with payments - especially on depreciating assets)...hopefully this will last a while as we are fanatics about maintenance...my son's 2002 Tacoma (TRD OR 4x4) has approx 240K miles. When I decide on a new one - I'll probably keep this as a trail truck...I really like it and it goes almost anywhere my ATVs/UTVs go (and I can have the AC blowing on me).
