Thanks man! I like the look of yours as well. I would have agreed with you that 2nd gen AC's look better than 3rd gen AC's, up until I got my 3rd gen! My 2nd gen got totaled last year after an old lady rolled right through a stop sign and T-boned me. Here's my stuff:

    • 2020 TRD OR AC (w/ tech package)
    • Bilstein 6112 front/5160 rear
    • Total Chaos Uniball UCAs
    • OME Dakars, Medium Duty
    • SCS Ray 10's, 16" dark bronze matte
    • BFG KO2 285/75/16
    • CMC'ed
    • Wilco Offroad tire carrier
    • BAMF rock sliders (salvaged from my totaled 2nd gen)
    • Victory 4x4 roof rack
    • Tan Softopper
Here's the old '07 in its prime:

and here's a pic of the carnage :(

Here in Alberta, Canada its the opposite. Seems every single automatic is DCLB. Makes finding a used topper damn near impossible. I guess new it is lol.

Hate to agree with you since I’ve got a 3rd gen but you’re not wrong - still love mine.

Man your build looks so good! I almost went this exact direction before I got a hard shell.

Oh take my opinion with a grain of salt, your 3rd Gen looks absolutely badass and is what I picture if I were to do it again. Damn what a heartbreaker on your 2nd gen, good looking truck as well. Hey I wanted to inquire on something, I was thinking of getting your exact setup with the 6112/5160 (I’m in 5100s now) and wanted to know how the Dakar MD and the 5160 perform together. I know it says that they are for 1.5” of lift I think and the Dakar’s provide over 2”. I know you’re 3rd Gen but what are your measurements? I’m at 24” in front and 24.5 in the rear and I’m searching what rear shocks to pair the front and the md Dakar’s with...

I got my whole lift kit from Headstrong Off-Road - Performance Bilstein 6112/5160 Kit with OME Dakar Leaf Pack, plus the Total Chaos UCAs (which Headstrong apparently don't sell anymore). Performance-wise the Dakars w/ 5160s have been great, my only complaint right now is that they squeak like a sonofabitch (ever since I dragged them through the mud on her maiden offroad voyage). I know there are ways to quiet them down a bit, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Measurements are ~22.5" front (both sides), ~24.5/25" driver/passenger rear. Front circlips are set at 5/4. Even with the CMC and a good bit of trimming the 285's rub a bit when turning while stuffed, so I'm going to swap out the stock 6112 springs for the upgraded 650lb ones to hopefully get a bit more clearance there. Might throw some spacers on top as well if that doesn't fully solve it since I've still got quite a bit of rake.

I realize just about everything has been said at this point. AC is the Tacoma. Everything else is an aberation of the standard. If I were a single Dad, I'd go for the DCLB. Without a 6 ft bed, I simply don't understand the point. The AC is perfect for anyone not regularly carrying tweeners. Little ones love the back seats in the AC, but still not appropriate for any distance. I'm 6 ft and I can get from A to B in the AC back seat for a 15min or less cruise. It's a truck for a man and his dog. And does everything perfectly in that world. When I road trip with a human passenger, (which I do a lot) my dog Deck is convertible and converts to 60% in seconds and allows the passenger to recline 100%, or to allow my GF's 12 yr old to hop in back for a quick run. When there are ppl involved, we take her AWD SUV. The 6ft bed with the gate down gives 7.5 foot deck to support full size bikes, too much cord wood etc. The 6 ft Bed with a soft top and the deck option is perfect for road side naps on road trips or legit camping.

My only 'must' when I went shopping for my Tacoma was the AC. I even considered a 2.7, but never a DC. My soccer hauling days are past. Now I'm on my second AC. Only way to go.

I love being able to open the back slider while driving.
I love the way the Sub and amp'd stereo fill the space with only 2 seats sucking up sound.
I love being able to open the 4 doors and damn near clean the thing out with a leaf blower.
I love that the Dog deck puts my herder up where he can see the world while laying down, where I can scratch his head at any moment and still have full use of the entire rear floor and cubbie.

    Only way to go.

I love the doggy deck! I made a quick and dirty platform for mine that just sits on top of the cubbies, now I'm thinking I might need to re-do it to sit higher up like yours

You've got a lot more dog than i do, too! But my deck works great from him, he's 55#. It uses the cupholders, 2 in the rear of the center console and the large opening in the rear ctr console, for the supports. that levels it with the passenger seat when folded., Leaves lots of room below deck for stuff.

how do you like the manual trans on this truck? I debated over getting a Manual, but wanted the Off Road trim and they don't offer the access cab OR with a manual.

Toyota is weird because they offer that exact combo here in Canada.

We didn’t get the dc off road until 2017 and still can’t get a dclb off road or a dcsb sport in an automatic. I have no idea why

I enjoy it. I don’t have “gear hunting” issues obviously.
I also didn’t feel the need to regear with 33s. I’m on 35s now and could benefit but it’s still not a priority.
