Wheel center cap had one of the catch lugs bent out of shape from being installed wrong by dealer/factory (I bent it back and it is fine now). Other than that zero issues with my truck (2020) after a year of use.

For the 2016 the only issue I have had up to its current ~73,000 miles is the headliner coming slightly separated from the door molding above the passengers head. Kind of annoying, but I tuck it back in whenever I see it.

For the 2021, well, it's too early to tell as it only has 269 miles, though the new headunit is incredibly laggy, quite the downgrade from the headunit in the 2016.

Both of these get rented out to strangers to take on overlanding adventures, so the 2016 has proven itself to be a tremendous machine.

Just a thought from years ago when my 07 started getting a bit clunky like that... ended up the u-joints had been worn out. The change in direction of force on the drive shaft while alternating D and R was accentuating the play in the worn out joints, and making noises. Toggling the shifter that way is a bit of a diagnostic test. As they really started to go, there was a squeaking that paralleled wheel speed (not engine speed) in frequency.

If that is the culprit, do yourself a favor and spend more than $20 on replacement ones that also have a good grease zerk for maintenance, like Spicer.

I bought my 20 last July, it has 17k miles on it now and the only issue I have had with it was the android auto being intermittent. It was probably a software issue , as it works great since my 10k service.

Have you never driven a car with a hydraulic power steering system? They always rev higher to help the pump out. Pretty simple if you ask me and everyone else on this thread - I'm guessing you've never driven a stick either?

Brother you have some bad luck, then. I have a 2016 with 55k miles and not a single thing has gone wrong, unless I did it myself. Good luck in the future, sheesh

Loving my 13 Tacoma purchased three weeks ago, double cab 6 cyl. It must have been lifted cause I have to hoist myself up using the handle. Can’t figure out how to exit without using the edge of the seat as a slide. No fancy pants electronics and I doubt I’ll ever use the 4 wd. But who knows...it’s just my drive around town car.

Well I bought a brand new 2016 DCSB OR M/T and I've put on 170k miles and I've loved every minute of it honestly. Stock battery crapped out early but no biggie I wanted a larger one anyways. I bought a custom 3rd brake light so no leak. I replaced 1 wheel bearing, easy and also no biggie. And I have the dreaded timing cover leak but for me no biggie, actually kind of looking forward to pulling the engine out. Also plan on doing the clutch at the same time.
But all in all I wouldn't say anything has gone wrong with my tacoma, it's just normal maintenance and repairs and man I fucking LOVE keeping up on the maintenance and repairs, I enjoy it, sincerely. Everytime I do a job myself on my tacoma, I instantly feel 100% better knowing I didn't have to pay 1000% markup for the dealers crappy/shoddy service.
I will keep this truck until I die, and it will keep running forever with a little love and care.

Oh these trucks are very easy and simple to work on. They are built to be serviced and everything can be rebuilt just about. That's why I love toyota.
Doesn't have to come out, I've seen a few reseals with it in but it's just easier to me to pull the engine out and seal it up on a stand. Looking at the service manual and how many places and nooks and cranny get sealant, it's 100x easier on a stand IMO.

Shit, now ill be cruising this thread.

I got just under 5k on my 21' OR AC AT. I went from a 98 mazda 2wd to this, so everything freaks me out.

Does any notice when you park and dont use the e-brake the truck rolls after park a bit and the shifter clicks/moves?

Also is it just me or is the cruise control in these trucks absolute TRASH?! I feel like it down shifts 3 gears to catch up 3 mph.

I've had what I assume to be my TSS sensor act up. My best guess is the desert dust.

    The fear is real...

At 50k on my 2017 Sport... One dash rattle I fixed by pushing some black electrical tape in between speaker cover and dash trim. Nothing else to report.

    Minimal stuff thankfully...
2017 bought new with 3 miles now has a hair over 10k miles. :anonymous:
    1. at 2-3 months of ownership, battery leaked acid from covers. Thanks Johnson Controls o_O(replaced under warranty with 84 month Toyota Battery)
    2. HVAC Blower wheel stripped itself loose during 100+ AZ summer heat around 5k mile mark (replaced under warranty, then replaced under warranty again with updated recall part when it became available.)
    3. Drum brakes lacked grease on backing plates, squealed like a pig (greased backing plates under warranty)
    4. Drums/parking cable occasionally stick after washing the vehicle
    5. Auto trans has quirky, but normal for the truck shifting characteristics (tsb fix available if I ever get around to taking it in)

I have 2016 AC SR5 4X4 2.7 with automatic transmission and 43000 miles, bought new in 2016 and no problems. Sometimes the trip (odometer) doesn’t reset on first push, but other than that it seems bulletproof. No major recalls or TSBs. I don’t hear too many complaints about the 2.7/automatic set up. Is the transmission less of a problem with the 4 cylinder engine? I agree doesn’t accelerate that well but I’ve had it over lots of California and inter mountain grades and it always gets me home. Good in snow and dirt roads. Any feedback from other 2.7 drivers?
