Referee fired for doing what the NHL wants, over managing the game instead of calling a consistent standard.

This is PR management to try and direct messaging away from the inconsistency game to game and regular season to playoffs in the league. The last thing the NHL needs is fans actually wanting the rulebook called the way it is written. They want to be able to control each games narrative and manipulate the play to create storylines. What fun is game 1 in 2019 of the Leafs and Bruins if the knee on knee hit against Kadri is actually called? They want players and coaches to snap and build storylines. If the rules were the rules, they wouldn't have control over that.

 

I always though NHL refs were very subjective in how they call the game. It was worse back in the day. Kerry Fraser was just about the worse.

 

Obviously refs miss many calls, but it's always been obvious they call game how they/nhl wants it to go. Player safety is an even more transparent that it's a load of BS.

If there's a Quick trade with the Leafs, LA has to either eat Quicks salary or take Andersen back in trade. Honestly I don't think TO does anything except try to read Andersen and maybe pull the trigger if Campbell gets hurt quickly again. Quick isn't a solution that fixes everything and without a third partner to take on Andersen, like maybe the Avs, it probably doesn't work out.

I'm pretty sure Dubas has three or four trade scenarios that are reasonably close to fruition. I think maybe one of them involve a goalie. The rest are for role players from Nashville, Detroit, or Buffalo that are likely moves to add more grit and/or offense.

Dubas probably has one or two long shot trades that likely won't happen but are being talked about. Those are the Quick trade and another I've heard of involving the Coyotes. Who knows though. If Dubas was serious and he's willing to throw down all the chips this year maybe we see something crazy in the next week or two. I can't say I really want it to go either way. I think the Leafs are a good team, but they still have to get past Winnipeg and Edmonton, then get past Tampa (that's where the journey is likely to end even in an optimistic playoff run), and then face whoever comes out of the disaster on the other side of the bracket. It probably doesn't make sense to gamble everything this year.

 

Jones still plays like he is a King when it's against the Kings otherwise.

You want LA to trade a still pretty decent goalie that thrives on playoff performance ( that you want, but badmouth him) for what your own fans describe as...

No thank you, we will be happy to keep him until retirement. Our only backup after Peterson is equivalent to a Zamboni driver so we don't need a broken bad goalie in return.

 

I think Quick remains and retires a KING at this point. Maybe pull a Brodeur afterwards.

A rather easy win for the Pens. Buffalo's team appears to be a train wreck. Tanev still day to day and Malkin week to week. Too bad about Malkin. He was having one of the better years he has had in some time.

 

The rumor came out of LA and I suspect it's just that.

What I expect is that LA might deal quick if the return is an expiring contract (Andersen) of similar cap value and a sweet enough offer of prospects.

Again I don't think it'll happen. I mean it wouldn't shock me but I don't think it makes sense either.

 

If you ask a Leafs fan they will tell you there are some pretty talented zamboni drivers playing in goal.
