POLL: Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S vs Falken Wildpeak AT3/W

I bought 245/75/16 for $106, 265's were $122.

 

I run the falken at3, I'm very happy with them so far, [7 months] very similar tread to KO's, also had a set of Cooper ATP, great tires, get noisy, BUT if your street that much, I bet the coopers are a better bet, not so chunky and more siping for grip. I traded gas mileage for heavy LT tires and a lift,,

 

Got it, checking local shops... some good deals on the Falkens currently but still leaning towards the Coopers

 

Interesting, they don't look aggressive but pictures are deceiving for sure!

 

They look killer with some rims! And look more aggressive than on the dealer/MFG websites

 

A lot of people saying they do better off road than expected...

 

Reviving this thread, do you guys have any updates on your tire choice? Would you do it differently? I'm about due for tires and between these 2

 

with 170k miles on my 4 banger, I've been through both of these tires. The original Cooper AT3, then the 4S, now Wildpeak AT3W. All std load, 265/65R17 for the Cooper and 265/70R17 for the Wildpeak. 0 offset wheels and the Wildpeaks rub a little on my mudflaps. Wildpeaks also making my truck drink more fuel, about 2mpg average for the past 40k miles. Both of the cooper sets lasted 60-70k (Plenty of tread left only changed them because the road noise got uncomfortable).

If I didn't drive so much I'd probably stick with the Wildpeaks, but more than likely going back to Coopers the next time around. Both are solid performers depending on your needs and aesthetic preferences.

I went with the Falkens, but with how much I drive on the streets the Coopers would be better

The Falkens are AWESOME they really are, I have zero complaints

Only reason I went with them? Looks, but I think the Cooper is better they just look terrible

Any specific reason you're leaving out Duratracs? You can get them in Load C in 265 75 16 if that matters to you

These are my Cooper Discovers AT3 4s in 265\65\17 Too quiet for me to hear them@ 75+mph. They're very smooth get good mpg, light and handle great when wet.

And I like the way look!

 

They def look better, just couldnt pull up to Hammers with Coopers cause mah ego

See, my ego is actually so big that I could actually careless as long as i have 4 inflated, safe working tires. Ego is so good that I can drive my wifes prius with the windows down and Nsync blasting and still give zero shits. But thats just me...haha

But i actually don't mind the look of the Coopers, sure, i would like a more aggressive looking tire, but also want to have a more quiet ride, especially on highways since we do travel quite a bit with it

 

Many vocal folks here prefer a tire with a more ‘off-road’ tread and heavy lugged sidewall. The common expression being ‘more aggressive’. You can see that the Cooper has 4 open circumferential grooves. In theory this should help it shed water and clear mud more effectively. Should be less hydroplaning on road and better performance for light duty off-roading and trails. The Falken has 2 nice grooves that will help with shedding water. Both are supposed to be heavily laced with silica, to keep the rubber soft and grippy. Both are well siped so should push out snow and be relatively grippy on cold, wet/snowy surfaces.

I have been on a set of p285 Falkens for a long while. They are now worn right down and pretty much lost all of their good qualities. I am considering a switch to the Cooper. Falkens were great and I would run them again however the Coopers are lighter and I don’t need the ‘aggressive’ look. The Falken tires also run a touch wide in the 285. They will rub where other 285’s do not.

 

I just picked up a set of coopers 265/75/16 on stock rims over the weekend. Its night and day from the stock Wranglers, also probably because they were out of balance and down to 3/32 but its so much quieter on the highway and i don't particularly think they look bad at all, anything from stock is a step up IMO lol, i can't believe i waited this long to ditch them

 

I have 7k on my wildpeaks and like them

 

I was between the 2, Falken prices have gone up quite a bit from when I last looked them up last year, so I went with coopers since they also had a rebate going on.
