TLDR: Just made my first new car purchase! :thumbsup:Completed paperwork and paid the down payment today, will be picking up the truck Saturday. Got the exact truck I wanted at the exact price I wanted (in the color I wanted).

Trim: 2021 TRD OR DCSB 4x4 manual in Cement
Factory options: LED headlights, door sill protectors/floor liners (no other factory or dealer add-ons/options)
    MSRP: $37,458
Final sale price (before tax+title+dealer fee): $34,492

My story: I def ONLY wanted a manual Tacoma. After watching the market for a couple months, I applied and got pre-approved through TFS. I then used Google sheets and made a list of 7 (total!:() TRD OR DCSB 4x4 manual trucks showing up in stock in inventories of local dealerships in late February. I emailed those dealerships with an offer of terms I wanted: $36,645 bottom-line sale price for a TRD OR 4x4 DCSB manual. No must-have colors, but preferred Cement, VB, or AG (pretty sure inventory of the last two is approximately zero).

All but one dealer emailed me back with an invoice meeting my offer(!). Long story short, only two dealers had it in Cement, but neither one was actually on the lot--both of these were allocations on a vessel en route as of March 17. One dealer told me I needed to come in right away and start filling out contracting, while the other dealer said it'll be marked/reserved for me and they wouldn't take any deposit until it arrived--I went with the latter, but nervous I would get sniped or something would fall through. The vessel landed at port on March 21...and then my saleslady called me and said the Tacoma is scheduled to get to the lot on March 26 (1-2 weeks earlier than I expected)!

Went in today and not only did they still reserve the truck for me with no deposit, but honored the original (weeks-old) price agreement AND backed off when I turned down all warranties, optional add-ons, etc.

Actually, I ended up buying overpriced blackout overlays as a "thank you" to my salesperson for coming through on everything:rofl:

:annoyed:Will post pics of actual vehicle on Saturday!:spending:

Seems like you got a good deal, they probably gave you the evil look when you turned down all the warranties and options like they did me. The dealers can be a daunting place.

From dealers that I talked to, a $500 refundable deposit was fairly standard to submit an order for an allocation or factory build. I think the sales manager didn’t want me to continue shopping around which is why it felt annoying or sketchy. I’m in no rush, but if it gets to the point where they can’t get a truck in for me, I’m guessing they’ll be reasonable, but I’ll definitely check out my options legally.

They definitely did! They tried to make me feel bad with each look they shot at me...and it worked...a little lol.

I do get it--they need to do their job and make their pay, but I stood my ground.

Ah, I had no idea. Well, hopefully they'll work on your behalf to push the truck forward as fast as possible (within their power). My dealer, a high-volume dealer in my area, seemed to have some sway in getting the truck from port to lot in a very short amount of time.

Yeah, that configuration at Jerry's was a close #2 for me, almost went in and signed for it. But ended well! I'll have to PM you to get some insight on Delaware beaches

For the few times, you see snow, toss a couple of 50-pound bags of sand in the bed. Having 100 pounds back there helps, and if you get stuck a cup full of sand behind the tires to back out onto ice helps.

I drove RWD in Oregon & Germany for years, so just using common sense. I will admit my front-wheel-drive VW Golf was a much better snow car than my BMW 318 in Germany!

I'm not super familiar with leasing. Anyone know if there are lease options available outside the dealership? ie aftermarket leasing companies? Maybe through a bank or credit union. Did a search but did not find anything and am in a time crunch for my impatient aunt. Appreciate the help

    Then I am not sure.

We have local auto brokers that do that, but I have never used them

Does anyone know when the April factory incentives are released? My Tacoma is coming in next week, so it could be the end of March or beginning of April.

Ask around, and look at license plate frames (dealer advertising).

Here in Austin, TX, one company is called Apple Sports Imports. Neighbor leases new cars (business) and just calls them with what he wants, they located it, and he deals with them as dealerships have pissed him off too many times.

I typed in duck duck go "Austin tx independent new vehicle leasing," and apple popped up. Worth trying.

Is your Aunt looking for a Tacoma? Texas (regions vary) has 2WD DCSB for $209 month, $999 signing. Two-year term. Screaming deal!

My daughter's car shopping runs into the good ol' boy auto dealers way too often. So she likes taking me, but I still look at salescritters and say, "She is your customer, talk to her". Sadly they just ignored her, so we walked out. I fully understand why my neighbor deals with an independent lease company.

I don’t think any of the major car manufacturers use outside banks for leases. I think the only car manufacturer that used an outside bank to handle their leases was Tesla. Even they switched to bringing leases in-house.
I’m assuming it has to do with the fact that the manufacturer still owns the vehicle while it’s leased. If an outside bank were to handle the lease, that means the bank would have to purchase the vehicle, then lease it to you.

Perfect. Thanks! No, she's not looking for a Tacoma. But she has that jump on the first thing itch. I'm telling her to pump the brakes and want to be sure of the options as ammunition.

Got this the morning after committing to a Tacoma elsewhere. This is one problem with going through the new car search and casting a wide net. Now, I have to deal with all of these emails and texts and will have to opt-out one by one lol:crapstorm:
