Does the computer need to learn on the first tank of gas

    MY first tank of gas and I got 13.5 per gal. Does the computer need to learn on the break in? I also put TRD exhaust on at 200 miles does the computer need to reprogram itself or what. Any help is appreciated.

    These trucks are pigs on gas. Try to keep the RPM's below 2000.
    Pick up a ScanGauge, they can help you keep a eye on your MPG.
    It will get better as it breaks in.

    13.5 mpg would be fairly low for unloaded, normal driving in normal conditions. How are you driving? Are you keeping the speed down and varying the engine RPM as a lot of people recommend for break-in? If so, I wouldn't worry much about the initial MPG, I'd look at what it does once you're driving normally. MPG will probably get better over the first few thousand miles, then level out.

    Im not pushing it hard nothing above 3grand on the tach. Switching from highway to street driving to work every other day. I put about 15 miles a day on it.

    There's your problem right there.. the 3 grand on the tach. Keep it under 2, or as close as you can.

    on the streets its around 1500 on the highway its 1700-2000.

    Give it some time.....it's still breaking in. The mileage will get better. You can't judge the truck by the first tank of gas or even after a few tanks of gas.

    K&N "warm" air intake
    I have to agree with the 2,000 RPM suggestion. When I push it along I can damn near see my gas guage move down, and have had 13mpg or so before I started sticking to the lower RPMs. Although when on the hiway in 6th, 2,200 seems to provide the best milage (so Scanguage says). Just don't race too many Hemi's you'll do fine knowing what your truck can do.

    Regular gas, and I agree below 2K RPM and you will get about 18-18.5 combined or 21 highway. It is hard to do though, keeping it below 2K from a dead stop feels like the acceleration of a smart car or moped. But with gas at 3.05 here, I am staying below 2K.

    Well Just filled the truck and this time around I got 17.6 mpg that's a lot better I will see how the next tank full goes it bumped up 4.7 mpg. I like it. and just put 450 miles on her. Still taking it easy.
