SSIA I have a 2018 TRD Sport manufactured on 1/17/2018, just two weeks shy of the Master cylinder recall (dated 2/2018-11/2018) and they don’t want to honor it, instead seeming to be OK letting me risk my families safety with malfunctioning brakes.
What do I do? I opened a claim with ToNA, they said the truck does not fall into the specified dates.

Edit: the truck is having a reduction in brake pedal performance like the recall.

    thanks

    Are you having issues?

Toyota knows the parts usage down to individual VINs and batches, esp for something critical in the safety systems.

If you are not having issues, I would not think twice about it.

They won't do the recall because your truck isn't part of the recall. Seems pretty straight forward.

You drive your truck like nothing is wrong with it because the parts affected by the recall are not on your truck. There is no grace period on defective parts production ranges outside of what the manufacturer may have built into the recall. You're wasting people's time (including your own) by opening a claim.

I call BS, a line of symptoms matching exactly what is going on with the same truck model and year of a recall just a week and a half shy of its release isn’t suspicious to you? I think it’s pretty straight forward, I’m having a reduction in brake pedal performance exactly like that master cylinder recall. Pads rotors lines all checked/replaced and solid. Should not be having this issue especially if they are aware of it.

Then, you are taking the correct approach and have a right to be worried.

If your VIN is showing up on the NHTSA site, it should be showing up in the Owners section at toyota.com. From there, there should be no question. Just print it, even print both, and head to the dealer. You should get no resistance.

Then report the dealer to NHTSA for non-compliance, that is the nuclear option

I don’t want have to send it through the stratosphere unless I absolutely have too, not my usual option but for this I’ll try my hardest to get it covered. I’ll update you all as to how it goes. Currently bleeding lines at the dealership to see if it’s air.

If you're having symptoms, are on the list, and being denied, there is only one option.

Wouldn’t be easier to go to a different dealer and just explain to them the issue you are having . Let them diagnose it . Don’t mention the recall . Best of luck .

No BS. They know down to the individual truck what master cylinder was used. Yours does not have it.

I noticed a softish pedal on my 2017 OR. My best mod under $200 is still installing ss brake lines.

Glad u got it sorted!

Recall is not going to happen for you. Just bite the bullet, fix it and be done. Is it really worth your family's life to fight over this? Master cylinder is not that expensive and can be replaced with bleeding lines in about an hour.
