If anyone wants to test thousands of miles and 100s of flashes and tons of hours of my labor here you go. I don't care for money. I don't care to lock my tunes. I only care to further the growth of others knowledge and desire to have their trucks drive better. If someone wants to sell it, be my guest, I hope you do, especially if you need the money. This is 04b04 stock gears 33s and gearlock and on demand upshift with ect on. If you want changes... change it.

Hell we’d need to sell that to Toyota or at the very least have our own special edition Tacoma

I get it, truly. I was answering the specific post I quoted.

But I also believe that if we charged royalties for everything contributed on here, we wouldn't have the repair manual, ECU update files, EWD, etc. Would hate to see a domino effect of TW turn into a pay site (WCS of course). I understand a company locking their tunes. The same goes for pro tuners. They have a business to run and a reputation to keep.

I guess the difference is that I'm just not concerned if I find some "breakthrough" that others find beneficial? I'm not here to make money, I'm here to make friends with like-minded individuals.

Sorry, I know we talked about locking, but I think the community deserves transparency on what they're loading on their 40k dollar trucks and if they want to learn from my changes or sell it to pay the bills, I'm about it. Especially after they've been waiting since Christmas 2019 for the final final final, granted ovtune actually knows what he is doing and dyno tunes it properly.

    I mean. I’m in.
I don’t care about the money either. Hell I bought other guys tunes to 1) support 2) you egging me on to try them 3) try them out

I definitely like what you have going on and suggest others to try it. Especially if you have 5.29’s.

Sharing tunes and knowledge makes it better for everyone

hoarding info to yourself, only means others will do the same which doesn’t help anyone.

Right now the tunes can’t be read once flashed. They ID as the same as the original. At one point Mat was going to start putting version names into the tunes so you could read that when you identify the ECU. I wonder if that feature is still present but just not used? Some could choose to hard code their tune version there then lock it. At least it would show up as your tune there if someone tried to sell someone else’s as their own tune. I get the reason Mat stopped that, so it would be a decision to make.

There’s no perfect solution that covers all bases. When I bought my Cobb Accessport, it was a great piece of hardware and easy to install. But I had zero clue what they adjusted, other than spinning the turbos a bit earlier. I’m sure they did many other things too. The big difference in that system was that I simply deinstalled the tune when I sold the car and sold the Accessport for $25 more than I paid for it. That covered shipping.

I support all the guys tuning, whether they choose to lock or keep open. It’s the guys that buy or pirate one and then market it as their own or sell it otherwise that I’m not down with.

OH so like everyone here using 2.0 as their base tune? Is that pirating in your dictionary? Or is it okay ones you change a few tables? What about everyone selling 2.0? Or everyone who distributes
2.0 to people who haven't bought it?

When I start developing VR 3.0 in a couple weeks or so I’ll unlock 1.8 for people to view. The differences between 1.8 and 2.0 aren’t anything I’d be concerned with someone claiming they have the sauce when they don’t.

3.0 is going to be a little ambitious so I’m gonna be dumping plenty of time and money to it

Depends on how it was released. Mat, if I remember correctly, indicated early on that you’d be free to flash others with your purchased tune pack. That approach seems to have been changed lately. Some on here have provided me tunes with the understanding that it was for my personal use. In that situation I’m not free to do what I want with it beyond my truck. How much editing to it do I need to do before I can call it ‘my tune’ and do what I want with it? I have no clue and don’t intend to find out.

Selling 2.0? Are they selling the tune, or the tuning service? Or is it just semantics? I think if you’re selling it three states over without providing the tuning service, that’s probably not what Mat envisioned.

I’m just trying to say that now that some of the tunes are ‘open source’, the free market forces are at work. I’m simply opposed to people selling the tunes (financially) in a manner inconsistent with the author’s intent when they released it.
