Interesting, can you turn it off with the button?

Does the door physically move when you hit the button? It's behind the glovebox just above the cabin air filter.

I'd start by making sure it's moving it's full travel, it may not be and then it's just going back to where it was when it was when you turn it on.

I just ran across your thread about some other lights being illuminated as well. I'm confident that these and your CC have a common source.

I'll deal with it tomorrow; I don't know how the HVAC and the cruise control could possibly be related...

I start with why this light is on, it maybe be the reason CC isn’t working.
I have heard of the ECM needing to be programmed for CC to work.
Not saying it doesn’t have to be, but I haven’t heard of it.

I don't either, the cruise is just 2 wires (ground and signal) and a switch with 3 resistors everything else related to it is handled by the ECM and Electronic Throttle System, the HVAC system has nothing to do with the ECM other than A/C amplifier telling it that the A/C clutch is on and the ECM telling the A/C that it can turn the clutch on.

How much does the HVAC control panel cost? It's one of those parts I can actually replace myself, but I don't want to pay dealer markup...

I wouldn't start throwing parts at it just yet, need to properly diagnose it first.

I think you may be onto something With the Traction light, many vehicles will disable the cruise if theres something wrong with the Traction Control/ABS system.
I don't think there's any programming involved with the cruise, either the truck comes with the switch installed or it doesn't.
The cruise switch is a simple 2 wire switch (ground and signal) that uses 3 resistors of different values to signal the ECM which button was pressed, everything else is handled by the ECM and the Electronic Throttle Control.

One of the Auto Cancel functions is a faulty speed signal.
Traction control is usually tied to the speed monitoring system.

I’m not saying that’s the problem.
But the TC is were I’d start.

How could the traction control have been disabled though?

Unfortunately without knowing the DTC's we can guess all night and not fix it, as in your other thread I'm just going by what was done and the mechanics rule "go back to where someone last was and you will likely find the problem".

No idea. Once you get the code pulled, you’ll have an idea.
It could be as simple as something being left disconnected.
I don’t think what ever it is, is a big problem.

Roughly how long ago did the traction control get disabled?

I'm thinking that is the common link here just off my skull
