Yeah, too funny, I've never been real good at waiting, and this thread isn't helping, just messing with my head!

Oh well, I'm probably still ok for late april, and I can dust off some backpacking gear in the meantime.

Finally got around to putting my Baja Designs dome lights “upstairs”. I went with these because they already have an integrated button switch, plus they’re perfectly sized. Expensive though. Red on driver side, white on passenger.17D306A1-96E7-4FA8-AC71-B2DE8B184C1C.jpg 281BA765-88F5-4631-A2B6-0AC31443C08E.jpg
I hid the wire in the track behind some “Light Duty Weather-Resistant Santoprene Foam Cord, 1/2" Diameter” from the all mighty McMaster-Carr.

Snugs up tight in there and can be removed easily to add or take away wires.

There was enough space around two sides of my ‘permanent floor’ to slip the sheathed wires in and jam more of the foam round in to secure it8A960FBE-E62C-4455-92D9-932E071E4DEC.jpg
Had to cut and mash the passenger side though, but it stays under the mattress anyway so it’ll never be seen.

Next was find a way to drop wiring below to my panel, yet still be able to slide the ‘moveable floor’ panel on the permanent floor without shearing off the wires. I opted to cut into the floor using a 1/2” hole down to the fuselage, and a router and knife to make a channel for the wiring:
    B07AA17E-1CB1-4BDA-9FBF-946BB6BE53AE.jpg 17B2540E-C960-46BB-BEA4-A2E3FD125086.jpg 6EE10AEE-8121-4475-9841-BC2F6E3561BC.jpg 64F55C00-F03C-4230-9319-AFA5164EB00C.jpg C082908B-E45E-4309-B37B-F47181D017AD.jpg A63DF89D-E7FE-440D-B926-5D325D0FEBAC.jpg
Looking back, the material wasn’t great with the router so a blade and straight edge would’ve done just fine.

I understand the strength of the material is now “compromised”, but it’s still solid and I put my knee on the channel with no crunching. I think it’ll be fine underneath the mattress, and especially so when I add a piece of u-channel in there over top of the wiring. Not closing it up yet as I will be running power to a Maxxair fan soon.

I absolutely love how the X-1 allows for wiring to be hidden. I’ve run all my wiring through the fuselage and into my hidden panelE35A8F55-A92B-47F1-AC33-64C1657DC9E8.jpg

Quick night check, one dome light in each color is plenty of lightF42BE355-F1CA-40B3-BD85-25323C3CD0FB.jpg 2579A06F-2AA1-4097-ACA6-0323B44A2FFD.jpg

It looks fine to me. There are a lot of overlapping layers there, which makes it naturally look messy. Also, you’re seeing the ends of the thread sticking out in a few spots.

Looks fine to me as well. The tents are made by hand in house, no automation. Bound to never look “perfect “.

I feel a bit guilty about slipping in ahead of you guys since your deposit was weeks before mine. But not so much now I have mine and it's awesome lol.

For those waiting, take the time you have to research and gather whatever you'll need for builds and whatnot. Covid is till affecting stock and ship times for some goods so it helps to get a head start on that stuff.

Very slick. So what are the T-shaped brackets and cord for? I realize that's SP's work but never noticed it. Is that some provision to help the top canvas fold in?

Also, is it these BD lights? Those little suckers ARE expensive!

Yeah I'm gonna try and use KC Cyclones for the bed and maybe even for the tent area if it will clear. $30 a piece seems more reasonable to me.

The cords pull the tent in/taught to help with closing it up.

    Yes and yes.

I ordered the Cyclones and BD at the same time, waited until both came in to decide which I liked better. I couldn’t find a nice way to mount the cyclones that I liked besides sticking them to the roof, it just looked cheesy to me. Plus, no integrated switch.

In the bed I just went with cheapie rock lights from slammazon, and a TW member made me brackets.

The BD are the perfect size, and simply drop in, plug and play. If there was a less expensive option out there, I totally missed it. Worth-it-dollars to me

No, for sure the BDs look worth it especially with the integrated switch. I'll end up having some type of switch controller and mount cyclones directly to the M6 threaded bosses for the canopy portion. I'm more wondering if I could mount cyclones directly to a t-slot nut for the tent portion like you have the BDs. The cyclone is just bigger so I'll have to play around with fit.

Interesting idea. I can't wait to see it in person. About every pop top before just uses shock cord around the tent to pull it in when dropping the top. I do rather enjoy innovation though.
