    Check build thread!
Wonder if it's an issue caused in warmer climates? Never seen the issue up here in Canada personally.

I was wondering the same thing. I've never seen anyone in PNW getting this flaking on the Super White.

I don’t think that’s a paint defect, but rather that the paint didn’t adhere to the surface in that spot.

Either a lack of primer or grease/dirt got on the surface before the paint.
I should think that would be a covered under labor/manufacturer defect, paint looks good imo.

Moreover, I feel for whomever has to go thru any hassle over anything like that and hope TOYOTA will continue to honor those claims.

    Best of luck

My dealership was well aware of the situation. Manager came out and pointed out exactly where other areas I didn't bother to check (fender jam and hood). Got the whole front and left rear door painted.

I took mine to the dealership last Friday. Service manger instantly said it was not under warranty and stated he would fix it in a heartbeat but it was up to Toyota. Also stated he had never seen this in the 30 years he’s been in the business. (Not sure I believe him). He went around the entire truck and took paint depth measurements that he is sending to the Toyota rep. BTW. Where the paint is peeling was the lowest measurement on the entire truck. Told me it will be a few weeks until I hear back. My confidence is low but we will see what comes of it.

I’m guessing greasy/dirty hands contaminated the surface since it’s not prolific.

This paint adhesion was a problem for a few manufacturers. And at different times - often when it’s a new model, or new plant/new process. When Chrysler/dodge switched to water based and electo galvanized dip tanks they saw this on a bunch of models - specifically roofs and doors. I’ve seen it on Honda’s, Jaguars, bmws...

A family member of mine is the head of one of the big 3s paint division now and I often get the inside scoop. You wouldn’t believe how often specialists are “jobbed out” between brands to help them solve problems. Not just paint - he has consulted for VW, Ford, GM Mercedes....

First post here so bear with me.

My 2016 sr5 double cab long bed 4x4 had some rust spots developing where the roof meets the windshield. I'd stop and check out the other 3rd gen in super white I'd see in my area (coastal southern california) and some were having the same issues. Took it in to the dealership even though it was out of the B2B warranty and they (as expected) told me it was not covered and out of warranty anyways. They said "it looks like its from rock chips" but the window is in perfect shape so doesn't really check out. But they did take a look at the fender jams and said that was a known issue and they repaired them for free as they were starting to flake.

Now a couple months later the rear drivers side door has started to flake in the exact same spot as a lot of the other posters in this thread. Wondering if its cause of where the sun always hits but the rest of the drivers side seems fine. Also there's now some flaking happening where those rust spots are. Going to take it in and see what can be done. Best of luck to anyone else dealing with this.

Can anyone who has reported the issue to Toyota share the number or form they used so I can put some energy behind it as well?

Reached back out to the Toyota dealership last Friday after a month and to my surprise the Toyota rep wanted to make good on the paint issues. Was told I would hear back from them this week and didn't hold my breath. Thought it would be a week or two and yesterday first thing in the morning the service manager called me and asked to drop my truck off asap. So I dropped it off and it is currently at the dealership being painted (door). I'm really pleased with the customer service of the dealership and the push to make this right.

After reading the responses from other "super white" owners I guess I have been pretty lucky. I only have about 20 1/4 inch chips in my hood, '06 model. I have an oil change coming up soon, will ask the dealer about it then.

Good afternoon everyone... sorry for the late response. The original spots (rear left and right doors) were repainted by my local dealer under “Good-Faith”. But since then I have both front doors, front fenders, area above the windshield, gas door, both sides of bed right behind the cab and rear part of the inner bed by the tailgate peeling. I was told to bring it down to see what Toyota will cover if anything... sorry to see so many with this issue still.

So this is what I am now dealing with on my 2019. The dealership took pictures and sent them to Toyota, but the woman in the service department is already saying that maybe I ran over something or something was spilled on it and they've never, ever, seen anything like this, so we'll see how it goes.

Wow that’s a different one. Looks like Goo-gone sat there for a while... maybe it’s a chemical reaction between the seam and the paint... good luck with that. Let us know how it turns out

Yeah, I have no idea what caused it as there have never been any chemicals there that I know of. I just noticed the black stuff under the door, but that hadn't really worried me as it has always developed black streaks below the door handles and stuff after enough rain, but I took a closer look and was appalled at what I found. I guess some of it is on me for not noticing it quicker - the worst of it is covered by the door when it's shut and I guess I just don't really look in that area when I'm getting in.

They say it's like that all under the truck in that area, too.

Add me to the list of back doors peeling! I just talked to Toyota Corporate and they told me their is nothing they can do.

2017 that is 4 months outside of 3 year warranty with 28k miles...

I am really pissed at Toyota right now!

Toyota got sued for their shitty white paint on other vehicles but Tacomas weren’t part of the suit. Out of all the things on a truck to go wrong I never thought the paint would fall off.

Had the same issue in the same place. The dealer did take care of it, but claimed they were busy and would need the truck for a week. They balked at getting me a loaner or rental. A call to corporate fixed that and I was given a rental..and like magic my truck was fixed in 3 days. But I barely slipped under the warranty (3-36). If it happens some more, suspect I am on my own.
