I haven't really liked anything that Nissan has come out with since the 90s, solid vehicles, I just think they're butt ass ugly. But man there's a lot to like on that truck. I'd have to see the production model in person, but just from that video I think it looks better than my Tacoma :crapstorm:

If Nissan comes out with a manual version I'd be pretty tempted to trade my 3rd gen in.
I don't give a shit if TFL is a bunch of shills as I don't base my vehicle purchases off of youtube videos...Also one of the guys daily drives an old first gen sooooo.

I don't expect an unbiased opinion here, just sarcasm to mask the butt hurt that something else is coming into the market place. I never said it was going to be a Tacoma killer, but it has features that could make it a winner vs. the out going generation.

And frame rails that sit like 4” off the ground, which they carried over to the new truck. Fact is, you need to lift a Frontier like 4” to have the same break-over angle of a stock Taco. This is why the cab of the Taco is so short, because the floor is higher.

So you gotta pick your poison. You pay a penalty for either.

I looked at the older version before I bought my Tacoma. It was a solid offering and I seriously considered it. What did it for me was the looks -- it looked dated and the interior was terrible. All things being equal, the Tacoma had a much better design aesthetic for my tastes (one person's opinion). With this new design they really went a long way toward addressing that. Does it look like a Tacoma knock off? Sure. Does it look pretty good? Yes.

Let's meet back here after a few quarters and look at the sales numbers. I could be wrong but I think Nissan will sell a very good amount of these ... it is nice to see really.

I agree. This thread is all good fun. Not trying to be mean-spirited. Just having a chin-wag about the next TFL “Tacoma Killer”.

    No doubt about it.

Give it a year and I think it will be the clear number 3 truck in the market -- 1) Tacoma, 2) Ranger and 3) Nissan. Just guessing, of course, but I think it will give the Ranger a run for the money in second place. It will be fun to check back once it gets out there fully ...

So they took A Tacoma, copied it almost down to the last detail bodywise, use a different engine/trans combo and call it a Taco beater.

I will absolutely say that Toyota was an idiot of a company for not using the 278 HP VVTi 4.0 they already had and instead dumped a car motor in the gen 3.

I think TFL’s hidden and true respect and love of the Tacoma comes through in the fact it is always the benchmark they compare to.

By calling this truck, and that truck, a “Tacoma Killer” and titling all of their videos with Tacoma-this and Tacoma-that, they unwittingly show that they view Tacoma as the gold-standard to beat in the truck market. So far they can’t kill it. Maybe Nissan will be the one?

There's just barely an inch difference between the TRD Off Road and Frontier Pro 4X.

It's kind of a different song when it comes to the Tacoma drivetrain. Well I can make it feel more truck and less minivan if I get a tune and these parts. It's not like the break over angle matters much considering the 3.5 has a propensity to dump oil into the cylinders.

Nissan has been making sub-par vehicles for over 15 years now. This one will be no different.

Nissan lost any form of quality, a few years after Renault bought them.

The GT-R may be the exception.

But Nissan has always been a strange company. I think. Seems like their value proposition in the market is to be 80% of what Toyota offers at about $3K to $5K less. You kind of see if with the Frontier (maybe closer to 90%?), the Maxima, the Rogue. They are clearly a value play. Solid offering at less cost. I honestly don't think they expect to kill the Tacoma. They can make a whole crap ton of money in the second or third position.

And, it is not like Nissan doesn't have a truck heritage to lean on ...

One of the worst vehicles I’ve ever owned was a Nissan Altima that came along with the woman I married. It’s was like 15% of the car that the older Camry we replaced it with was.

Reliability aside, which was terrible, that Altima had a wider turning circle than a long-box crew cab Taco. One of the most poorly designed cars I’ve driven.

I can’t take Nissan seriously after that car, but look forward to seeing this Frontier take its stab at the market.

I do like the looks on the outside of the 2022 frontier. Will it drive well? Will the v6 be better than toyota? Will it be as dependable as toyota have?

When I was looking to buy a mid size truck nissan really got hardly any consideration. Why would I want a truck that was last redesigned 1 year before the vehicle I currently had was made? It was too old and out of date. That and nissan has not kept it's quality up since the Renault merger.

I think for Nissan it's a good move and will probably help their market share with the new truck. Will they dethrone the Tacoma? I don't think so but let's wait and see.

Not saying they haven't had their misses! My mother actually had one of the early Nissan sedans. We called it "the wheelbarrow." Couldn't kill that car.

But look at this sales data from Q4 of last year. Screen Shot 2021-03-27 at 1.39.09 PM.jpg

They sold 10,000 units in one quarter for a truck that had not been redesigned in twelve years. Ranger sold 27,000. All I am saying is I think they can make a pretty good run at the Ranger. The Tacoma, no. But the #2 Ranger? Not implausible at all with a few things going their way.

I think it is a long way to go and they will not get there ... they sold 10K units in one quarter while the Tacoma, with limited production, sold 75K. I would like to see them do well butI don't think that even they think they can dethrone the Tacoma. :)
