Actual big home cabin build will likely not start 'til after he retires. There are 4 liveable cabins on property now. I guess I mispoke, although not intentionally; this Summer we'll build a pole barn structure to house sawmill (in a working configuration), and the equipment (tractor/skidsteer/excavator), plus milled lumber storage. At least that was my last understanding.

One of the classics was he enlisted with his friends. They both agreed Marines had better look dress uniforms than the Navy. So they signed up for the Marines in November 1941.

WOW! Even the backup to the backup has a backup. I love overkill.

The document shredding is done and the landscape timbers removed. The hill is graded and seeded. Off for the 2nd C19 shot in a few minutes.

I was blessed with a hard working crew today.

Well there is a system to my madness.

tractor works good for the drive unless it’s cement. Then the walk behind comes out. I need the walk behind for around the house for the oil tank. Can’t use the tractor cause I’ll destroy the lawn with the chains and all that. So technically the big toro is the backup to the Ariens. The tractor
Runs the drive. The smaller toro is a rebuild and will sell in the fall. I have one more floating around that needs work and I’ll sell that one too.

It’s officially spring. :yay: Got the rototiller started. Had to semi-disassemble and clean the carburetor (jet). The garden-ette is now rototilled. Next weeks task, start the lawn tractor.

A productive 3 hours behind the field mower. This thing cuts like a brute but it's heavy to navigate. A good 3 hour workout this morning. Lots more to do yet but that's enough for today.

Got my errands done, our Credit Union - like most banks in the area - now has a guard at the entrance for people to take off their mask to match ID (several bank robberies in the area of late). In our case there is an ATM in the entry so you are asked to de-mask and face the ATM - takes a photo. While I was doing so an elderly gentleman (older than me I suspect) came in without a mask. The guard politely asked him to look into the ATM before putting on a mask to enter. He refused both, the guard in a polite way stated he would have to leave and could use the drive up if he didn't want to comply. With that the gentleman stated - why, what are you going to do you, you are nothing but a rent-a-cop. The guard said that is correct but I will have a city police officer here in just a few minutes if you wish. He left swearing...

WHY, I don't get the push back on a simple request for the protection of everyone in close proximity???? One of Alice's co-workers is of the same mind, "it is only the flue". He and his wife just came back from CA and they both came down with COVID and he is now in the hospital with COVID and pneumonia - he is 62 and refused to get the vaccine when offered at work.

My other three stops were all fine and everyone was wearing masks and staying socially distanced at the indoor facilities. no complaints or push back -

The rent-a-cops at my bank(s) have guns. I don’t go out of my way to antagonize armed persons.

Things were going good and I was feeling it so I tore the “little guy” apart.
Came apart well with just a minor tussle with the rear pulley.

Parts should be here this week and assemble. Then store it and sell this fall.
Got to get the other one here from that other guy and tear into that one.

Being careful to avoid getting political, I think the mask issue is related to the loss of individual freedoms all over the world in these modern times. We are packed together like sardines in a can, and as so, are forced to interact with each other as never before. There are likely those right here on this thread who have strong feelings directly opposed to each others. Tempers flare and there are consequences. In times past, I honestly believed that the human race was getting smarter, but no more! We are as dumb as dumb can get, and getting dumber every day. The only thing we are getting smarter at is the slow realization that we are getting dumber! NOT political, that would be too easy to fix if it were. I must admit here, that I myself got caught up in a situation in which I instantly regretted, but of course, too late to take back: My bank had implemented Covid procedures that involved a bank guard directing foot traffic, and he wasn't going to allow me to exit the way I came in. Things got physical so quickly that I am ashamed of my behavior and think back on it often. I'm no smarter than anyone else and am caught in situations that never arose when times were simpler.

I get we don't like being told what to do - and with a year of mixed messages we are all frustrated. Like you I wasn't sharing my encounter as a political statement as much as an example that we have lost some common respect of one another. No matter what our personal belief is with all of this I find it easier to comply in public settings for everyone's personal space. I too have had to bite my tongue on several occasions when a person of authority was over stepping that authority in matters that were unnecessary. Like my traffic encounter last month when I got pulled over and was told by a smug cop that I can afford to pay for the ticket because I have a new truck even though I was being passed. Not that I wasn't in the wrong for speeding it just burned me that I was being passed by several vehicles and I was the one pulled over.

What I don't get is when someone just pushes back for no apparent reason other than just because. No one, guard or others in line were making an issue, actually I thought the guard was extremely polite and accommodating his push back to not conform. Leaving out the mask for a minute, due to several bank robberies in our area in the past two months not complying with a non-invasive protection for everyone in the bank and the bank seems silly to me. Maybe he was just having a bad day or that is his normal personality.

Well, we got the yard mowed and trimmed, and I set out to fish in the new fence power wire - that some fool with a shovel skinned, causing it to GFI with any moisture. Used up my wire lube just to get it down the one pipe and into the dirt. Stuck it in some PVC just to protect it better from that fool with the shovel, and used some orange paint to get his attention if he hits it again! Once grass fills in, I will adjust some pavers that rose a little.

So, on to the "next" project, the secret squirrel. Marked off, ripped a cut line for the tiller with the edge hog, and first pass, not raked. And one last shot trying to be like Mark! Dang, forgot the tiller in the picture!

Our road trip - we left a week ago on our trip from Elk Grove California to Dammeron Valley Utah to visit some dear friends. First major trip since March 2020. 11 hours each way hauling ass all the way. I love driving in the wide open spaces of the west. Highway 50 most of the way (named the loneliest highway in America), then onto as lonely highway 93. Well over 100 miles between gas stations or anything else. There were times we didn’t see another car for 20 to 30 minutes in either direction. If you break down you can be (blanked). The new car performed great. Quiet, comfortable, powerful. More than once my wife looked over at the digital speedometer display and said, Ken you are going 108 mph, you better slow down. I had no idea I was going that fast. Made it safely to our friends little horse ranch and had a fabulous time. We’re busy all week including a trip down to Mesquite Nevada where we won several hundred $$$ at the casinos. It was just great to get away and out of the house for a week.
On the way we passed the Bunny Ranch (and several other similar ranches) which is a legalized brothel and we had a question - Are masks mandatory inside the Bunny Ranch. And do both people have to wear masks or only one, or.....I offered to stop and inquire but my wife gave me one of those “looks” and I knew it was best for my well being to just keep going.
Here are 2 pics to give you all an idea of what it’s like out there. You can see for a hundred miles or more. Oh and one really cool thing we saw was a pair of F18 jets practicing maneuvers. There’s a Naval air base out there somewhere. These 2 jets came across in front of us low and fast. They then went after burners an started a climb and a 180 turn. Watching this literally took my breath away. It just made me feel even more proud of our military. It was the highlight of the trip. It happened too fast to get a picture.
