You are probably right about it taking the ranger on. While it's newer here in the states it's based on a global platform that Ford's been selling around the world for a while too. Like since they discontinued it here last time. All they did was make a few changes to make it work here. It's getting to be an old design too.

Tacoma killer? This thing is gonna be outdated upon arrival if that summer '22 date he mentioned is correct.

My current truck looks very similar inside and out. The only thing this truck does better is having a 9 speed transmission. Still wouldn't get this over my current truck.

It's coming out late this summer as a 2022 model.

The 3rd gen is already getting dated, but bet with sales as good as they are Toyota will pull a page from the Tundra book and not change a thing until it's too late.

Spoken like a bitter ex owner. You know, life is short. Think about today and tomorrow instead of yesterday.
Toyota will not sit on their laurels. Remember they build what the masses want, so if the masses want 9 speed, Toyota will build it. If the masses are fine with the current drivetrain, Toyota will tell the minority who want strange shit to get fucked.

Serious question, why are you still here complaining? Is there not a Nissan-land forum? We get it you don’t like the Tacoma and like your Nissan. I for one, am thrilled for you. It’s great. I looked at Nissans before too, they seem reliable, just didn’t care for the current gen. The fact that their value drops like a stone doesn’t even bother me since I keep vehicle 10+ years. I’m just not sure why every post I see of yours you are bitching and whining about Tacoma’s. Move on dude.

Well that is 9:38 of my life wasted :annoyed:

The last Toyota truck I owned was a 1988 SR-5 shorty reg.cab and it's still running, did not even think or look
at anything else before picking up my '21 TRD ;)

At the end of the day, It's still a Datsun :anonymous:

I think this is is spot on. I've always viewed Nissan as using the "we can't beat Honda or Toyota, but maybe we can take a portion of their market share by offering less vehicle for less money," strategy. I had a '95 200sx (2-door Sentra) in high school and man, did that thing lack compared to all my buddies' Honda's. Cable clutch instead of hydraulic clutch, cheap interior panels... I don't really remember too much else but I felt like my 89 Supra that I purchased a few years into owning the Nissan shed a lot of light on the build quality of that car.
I also married into an Altima, although mine has the VQ35 which is admittedly an awesome motor. That aside, I agree with everything else you said. Turning radius is atrocious, the damn bumper cover has to be removed to replace headlight bulbs, the cruise control button fell off of the steering wheel and again, interior is just garbage quality. We made higher quality molded parts out of a mold misaligned by about .020".

I won't say I'd never buy a Nissan, but I'd think a lot harder about it than I would buying a Toyota, Honda or Subaru.

Honestly I can be swayed...but the determining factor is price. If Nissan thinks they can 1:1 with Tacoma pricing wise they will be in for a bad time. Toyotas are overpriced because they are Toyotas, period.

That said this Frontier looks like it kicks ass and is waaay more modern now than the 3rd gen was in 2016.

I like the TFL guys, I’ve even ran into them at Toytec in Denver. They gave me the time of day (30+min) and fawned over my 3rd Gen manual. Did you guys not see their 1st Gen rebuild (baby yota)? The bashing is misdirected in my opinion.

Toyota is the benchmark, and we’re all well aware of Taco power train flaws. This is going to make a strong showing, the Frontier was been long overdue for an overhaul.

That all being said, it makes a good run at the Taco in the looks department. For me personally reliability is highly valued and for that it’s too soon to tell; I have no intent of leaving the Toyota brand.

Time will tell if the nissan is worth flip or not but as a technician I can tell you I won't be buying a nissan. Toyota has millions of the 2gr series engines out there and it is reliable and powerful when tuned.

Can you elaborate on this? Admittedly I have a '21, but aside from an AC outlet in the back seat, a "tow mode," and a USB-C input under the dash I don't really see anything that is not offered on today's Pros.

    I know you haven't ...

Curious as to why you moved to the current version of the Frontier instead of the new one, though. Was it is timing thing? Either way, you will be fine. Yes, we all know JD Power has huge problems but this is encouraging for Nissan:

    https://www.automotiveworld.com/new...n-2021-j-d-power-vehicle-dependability-study/

Edit: For the record, I am not selling my 2020 TRD OR. I really like it. Plan on keeping it for at least 10 years and we will go from there. But as a fan of the automotive industry, I would like to see Nissan do well ... just like I would like to see Ford do well. And better offerings from the second, third and fourth place trucks keeps the heat on Toyota, which is good for all of us.

It won't take much to beat the QDR of the 3rd gen. I think the Ridgeline has a higher QDR.
