Aloha, I just received my custom box for this sub from Mr Marv. Can you all help me wire this correctly. The posts for the wires haven’t come in yet. But I am gathering everything I need to wire it. The guy at the audio shop was a dick (woulda taken him 10 min to get it in the box if that).
I have never done this before. The amp is already installed in the truck.

    mahalo!

What is the exact model of your sub? There should be something signifying single voice coil or dual voice coil. And it should also say how many ohms it is.

As a former installer, I will say, it’s always funny for a customer to ask for your help then them call you a dick. Maybe he thought you were a dick

if the amp is already installed, what are you confused about?

Maybe he did think I was a dick because he’s been backlogged on JLs for a year and I came in with one brand new. He literally told me to piss off.

It’s a drop in. It was 500 bucks for the sub and box. I waited 8 months for this thing

This will get your 4 ohm down to a 2 ohm. Your amp is 500 watt at 2 ohm. 8B76FE9C-095D-4F23-A388-D7C653B4B4CA.jpg

Going to 2 ohm won’t overload the sub?

Ahhhhh. Didn’t realize the sub was only 400 watts RMS. Glad you caught that.

Only problem is, as far as I know, you can’t wire a dual voice coil 4ohm sub to 4 ohm load at the amp. It would either be 2 ohm (parallel) or 8 ohm (series).

Granted, I’m not a whiz when it comes to wiring, but that’s just based on my knowledge.

    great question.

disadvantages and advantages between the 2 or 8ohm setup? But my 1st question would be what is your amp rated fer, can it handle either or both? Lower speaker ohm = more amplifier rated power = louder? what about sound quality(detail?).

I'm also confused, which model do you have the D4 or D8?
would the D4 be either 2 or 8 ohms depending on the wire up
would the D8 be either 4 or 16 ohms, but I never seen as amp rated for 16 ohms. The video says you have to wire the dual coils, not only 1 coil.

edit: it would be best to have an ohm meter to check out your wiring too? I also see on the box the woofer is rated for 400w continuos so you're good as long as you don't feed it more than that?

I believe it’s the D4 although I am semi confused as to the wording on the box. Like the picture says either d4 or D8.

The amp I have is powerful here’s a picture of the sticker on the amp. I think I have to wire it according to the video I posted + to +
Then - to - and then one positive wire to the positive port and one negative to the negative port. I haven’t received the wire inserts yet so I am gaining my knowledge before then. Thank you all.

Read this. Hopefully it helps clarify the wiring options.

In short, if you have the D4 you can only wire it to 2ohm or 8ohm. If you have the D8 you only wire it to 4ohm or 16ohm.

The specs on your amp show it will output 300 watts at 4ohm and 500 watts at 2ohm.

You REALLY need to figure out whether you have the D4 or the D8 before you can worry about anything else though. It should say on your subwoofer itself somewhere. If not, hook up a multimeter to it and see whether it’s 4 or 8 ohm (will be close to one of those numbers, but not necessarily exactly 4 or 8).

Doesn’t this answer the question of 4 ohms or 2 ohms? Because the sub only can handle 400 watts doesn’t that mean it has to be wired for 4 ohms? This meaning it has to be wired in series? Making the sub the D8? Positive to negative on one side and positive and negative to the amp on the other?

because 4 ohms is 300 watts per what the amp says

Simply put, no. That doesn’t answer it.

Read the part I put in bold in my previous comment. The read it again.

You need to figure out what sub you have to know how to proceed.

Knowing the max wattage if your sub is helpful, but does not give all of the info needed.
