cbechtold's Long Travel IFS Crawler Tacoma Build and BS Thread

Rims are welded, finished, and kinda prep'd for paint tomorrow. Going to go over them with acetone before paint. They're not perfect by any means, but for something I know that's going to get scratched and beaten to hell, they look pretty okay.

Don't know what you do for a living but judging from how you put together your build thread it looks like you have some "engineer" in you. This has got to be among the best organized, clearest, and most helpful build thread I've seen on TacomaWorld. Excellent job telling people both "where you've been and where you are going!"

On the east coast it would have been difficult to find a fairly old but decent truck to start with but now it appears you have an excellent well thought out plan and machine. I hope it serves you well for years! Thanks for all the information

 

Oh. Before you mount the tires, got a close up of the welds? Im really intrigued on these rock rings. I can do one rim every few days. My pops is a welder amd can take them to work. Or my buddy can too, that foo can lay dimes

 

This is the only photo I have a decent weld on the wheel. I had a few better welds, but I haven't done almost any fab work in over a year so I'm rusty as hell and it hurts.

Ha! I appreciate the kind words. That was definitely the goal for TW. I know I've dove through 50 pages before just to find one thing I was looking for so I'm glad to see that the origination is helping others.

I'm pretty sure most of the organization comes from actually being diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Though I do take after my mom a lot since she always tried to engrain that origination is key while I was in school.

Sooo. Lets talk about the BB balancing. I think i need this for the 4runner. How many weights per tire?

I've done it, would not again, just take it to discount tire and have them balance your tires.

 

Agree. I tried dyna beads & airsoft bb and 30% of the time, they drive like cr@p

 

Before I completely forget to update this thread, I had these comes in after completely forgetting I ordered these.



Heard good things about these bumps, so I'm looking forward to having them on the truck. Depending how I like them, I might try getting their bump stops for the rear.

I do agree with this. Airsoft bbs or dyna beads work better for off road vehicles that see a lot of trail time and little highway miles. I very much loved how my truck drove after I had it completely rebalanced. Slowly over time I've lost weights and I'd I get tired of rebalancing my tires after every trail I run.
