dd light bars, trd cat back exhaust, KDMax tuned, trd skid plate, 2" lift, sema wheels toyo open country at3 tires.
tires are toyo open country AT3's, on oem toyota Sema Pro wheels, a 2" lift up front, 1" in the rear. stock gearing. no added weight other than truxedo lo pro tonneau, and stock aluminum running boards. I can consistently get 400-430 by the odometer, and then while it sits at zero miles left, I have approx 30 more miles to go before I am adding gas from a can, to get me to the station. :D

I am an easy on the gas kinda guy, though. Ski

Thought I’d check out KDMax 6.0 based on the comments and reviews I’ve been seeing. I requested the tune from @PapaRee and he made me a ‘try before you buy’ 4 tune pack offer I couldn’t refuse which included a little tweaking to adjust shift points, if necessary, after I tested it out.

I tried both regular octane tunes but preferred the reg throttle over the LT. After a couple of hundred kms I was very happy overall, but thought a little tweaking would make it 100% for me. I asked Kreg if he would adjust the 4-5 and 5-6 upshift points a bit and after a third iteration he nailed it (exactly what I requested). After he delivered the final custom version he said he knew what I was looking for and he was right.

The KDMax 6.0 (custom) is the best for me so far in a line of great tunes. Shifting is very smooth and shift points are 100% spot on. Lots of pep in 1-4, mileage no worse than ~20mpg so far and tranny fluid temps are keeping well within normal. All around, worth the money.

And, dealing with Kreg, (the K in KDMax) is truly a great experience. He knows what he’s doing, is very professional and wants to see his customer fully satisfied with the product and the service is friendly.

Well done @PapaRee and @TWTaco. Tks.

I was going to text you today and ask you to leave a post in this thread and here you did anyway. Didn't I tell you it'd be awesome, amazing, something to that effect? lol :D I'm glad you were running and wanted the premium tune too. I've been running 93 for a couple years now. It just runs better and who knows, maybe it'll help long term as well.

I would say that it may help in the long run. The truck just feels like it has had the chains taken off and the weight taken out of the bed. It is just totally different in the way it takes off, shifts, and runs. This may be a keeper after the lease now. All depends on what the new Gen 4 truck shapes up to be.

I posted earlier today touting my KDMax custom tune and have to add my new observation of an “unintended consequence” from driving around town this morning. I think what @PapaRee and @TWTaco have done is create a “traditional” shifting strategy by using the overdrive gears as I remember OD was used when I was much younger. What I mean is that it will stay in the lower 4 all day long unless the speed gets over 45mph and I ask for an upshift to 5th by easing off the throttle a little. Continue in OD#1 up to 60-65mph, another ease-off and 6th, OD#2. Never have to be concerned if it might sneak into a higher gear with incorrect (low) rpm. If you happen to be a gramps driver like me at times, the shifting is so smooth that you won’t be able to butt determine which gear you’re in with a light throttle. I’m able to monitor the shifting using a scangauge so I know this is all working properly.

My trip today produced 22mpg city/hwy so I’m not concerned that slightly higher rpm for longer duration is a problem, in fact it might be helpful for improved mileage.

This tune is so good that if Toyota comes out with a ECU update for 2018s, I probably would resist it.

It is a trade off. That pedal lag in high gears/high speed is un avoidable. If I tune it out, we get a quick downshift to 4th.
Once you know it is there, you know if you are driving at high speed, it takes a little more throttle pressure to get up and go.

Flashed 6.0 premium with LT. Only driven about 25 miles today running errands but wow...much smoother. The shifts and driveability of the truck is much improved over all previous versions. Truck drives more like a normal vehicle now.

Thanks for all the hard work put into this!

Jumped from OV 2.0 to the KDmax 6.0 Truck is still in the learning stage after clearing the values but the difference is noticeable.

Just finished half of my 1500 mile trip this week on KDMAX and the tune has made this heavy truck so much better to drive.

Shifting is spot on for my setup and the power is there off the line, and is very manageable.

    Very pleased !

Just so everyone knows for the future.
You do not have to clear LV and AT when you flash to a new tune.
It is only recommended if you have any "problems" like low MPG's, or weird shifting, surging, etc.

My first longer highway miles on the KDMax coming up on a trip down to Corpus Christi from San Antonio. Gonna tune a couple trucks while I’m there
Until now my longest drive on any of Kreg’s tunes, both Kruiser and KDMax, has been right at 20 miles. The Corpus drive is a 140 mile drive, flats and rolling hills. Gonna pedal the way down and cruise control the way back to compare the driveability and fuel economy from foot to cruise.
The speed limit is 70 so I’ll be hanging around 75-78.
2017 TRD OR, 4.88’s, 3” lift, slightly heavier than stock.

I’ve done this trip many, many times. For comparison, on OVTune 2.0 (19800) my absolute best mpg was in the 18’s a few times with a good tailwind and while better than the stock tune obviously, I still had annoying gear hunting on some of the hills and so-so mpg that averaged in the 17’s.

For further comparison, when my truck was bone stock, this trip netted me an absolutely abysmal driving experience, and at best an mpg in the 15-16‘s. It was such a shitty drive, I think I’ve blocked most of it from my mind like a traumatic childhood experience.
