Needed a little smoothing out for the new bearing/bushing.
A file and sand paper cures a lot of bad..

Yup. Debating on the DIY method and that service might get pushed further into the season depending on the difficulty. Apparently these transmissions don't like to live beyond 100K if never serviced. Even though it just rolled over 30K last coming home, it's 6 years old. A 4-5qt spill and fill should keep it happy. Haven't checked the condition of the fluid, guess I'll have to pop a cooler line to get a small sample. Driving up the mountain is hard as Hell on automatic transmissions, mostly heat.

The oil choice was all over the place so I just settled for what I think would be good. That an a 3 5qt pack shipped to my door from Wal-Mart was only $65.

I'm talking myself off a ledge hearing gurgling behind the dash. It seems while some have associated it with head gaskets, many have had it for a long time with no sense of issues. Gonna try burping and monitoring levels. Also will need to check and see if the water pump is possibly leaking.

That's the other bittersweet thing about this forum. It makes you want everyone else's truck type, but it also makes you panic at the first sign of symptoms. Hoping it's nothing major, but if it's a head gasket I want to know early so I can do it myself.

 

Dunno, sudden air intrusion into the system doesn't sound good at all. If it does come down to the inevitable, remember it's the perfect for other hard to do things like timing chains and guides. Also get the heads completely re-done if you're able to. While it's open might as well. Don't know what kind of winter road treatment is in your part of Canada, but I'd seriously check out the rust on your truck before continuing a major repair like that. Would be a shame to "refresh" the engine to find a hole in the frame 6 months later.

 

Yeah, in the Yukon they mostly just sand the roads, not salt it. But I do plan to go under it first, whenever it's dry enough to do so. And it may not be sudden, I've only owned the truck for a month, and up until recently have had to run the fan full blast because of a bad resistor. I suppose I could look at getting the head machined, since I can remove it and just take it or ship it to a shop?

 

We have several machine shops around here, I just drop them off at the shop. However it seems like you live in a lot more "rural" part of Canada, so that might limit you. Not saying you need to do it, but it's what I would do. I'm a little too anal sometimes.

But yeah, will have to look into options, this part of the world they are a bit limited for stuff like that. I always have my trusty 4runner if it has to take some time.
