Anybody know anything about plumbing

So I have a small leak which appears to be coming from the tee adapter underneath my sink (see pic)

my guess is I should replace it, but this adapter doesn’t look like what I see online

when I take off the supply lines, the t adapter itself just spins freely in either direction. I marked that point in yellow. Shouldn’t there be a brass nut connecting this to the main valve?

Teflon tape?

 

?Sounds like you didn’t disassemble but if you can tape the threads, reassemble everything, dry everything thoroughly and watch while somebody else turns the water back on to see where it’s leaking.

 

Looks like a NPT nipple. So no on the brass compression fitting. Second the try adding “teflon tape” before any major surgery. Also things shouldn’t be spinning freely.

 

Sounds reasonable but I don’t think it’s leaking at the supply line connections. Leaking more at where I marked it in the pic and that’s where it’s spinning freely. How can I just remove it and replace it?

 

Call a plumber.

 

You have a swivel tee that is for pneumatic systems. You need a regular tee to replace it.

 

Take that brass “t” fitting out of there... run to local Depot or Lowe’s. Take the fitting in to make sure you get the correct thread size for your 3 connections. But a new “t” or “y” fitting (non-swivel) for $8 as well as a roll of thread tape for $3. Get 3 chili-dogs at the hotdog cart out front. Go home, wrap tape around all three male fittings. Tighten all up good, and test. If still leaking... check the crimp clamps on the stainless collars.

You will first need to know if you are working with 1/2” or 3/8” fittings.
Then you’ll want something like this

The question is, have you already shut off the water to that valve?
And is it a 1/4 turn valve?

If you haven’t turned that valve and it isn’t leaking.
DON’T shut it off by that valve. Shut it off at the meter.
Other wise, there’s a good possibility that valve will start leaking.

If it does, I’d get a 1/4 turn valve and install it.
I’ve had much better luck with them not leaking after you use them to shut off or turn on the water.

Why is there two incoming lines
On the same fitting I don’t get it.

 

Looks like that is 2 out going lines.
The valve supplies water to 2 different things.
The big pipe is the supply line. It feeds the 2 small lines.

 

Ohh okay. Makes sense. Mainland plumbing is 100x more complex then Hawaiian plumbing

 

There are only 3 things you need to know to be a plumber. Hot goes on the left, cold on the right and crap flows downhill. Figure that out and the rest is easy.

Master plumber here: it looks like a compression fitting to me, have you tried tightening it? Be sure to back it up if you do and Teflon tape is generally not used on that type of fitting.
