I think I got the bare tool for ~$200.

The stickers for your shocks cost more than that didn't they?

Most guys building fully caged trucks have waterproof storage under the spares or boxes built around the spares which is how I’d build mine too. In the cab works too.

To bolt down my upper bedside panels I drilled through it. Cut the bolt head off and welded them to the panel. This will make them flush without a bolt head sticking up.

    Almost there man! Looking great!

You going to fully weld the tool boxes too? Or seal the doors at least with gasket to keep dust out?

Oh it is. I still have more projects for the rear but I can do them when the truck is running. I just want to get the truck going again.

Thanks, I’m going to seal the gaps with silicone. I do have some rubber trim for some places. But the tool boxes are getting silicone.

5 cans of steel it black and 3 cans of rust oleum bed liner. Cage painted. Ran out of paint and I need to order some more. Need to paint the links and axle. Going to paint it with steel it grey.

I’ll let @SilverGhost answer, but since I have both bumpers and my housing painted in gray and some parts in black, I’d say other than being able to weld through it, there’s not enough added durability to justify the extra price and even considering I’ve paid significantly less than retail, that’s still my opinion. I’d rather get my hands on some 2k industrial or automotive grade material.

I just grabbed 2 cans for my rear axle. Haven’t tried to weld over it yet, but the coverage given per spray was like 100x the good rustoleum that I usually use. I splurged on the steel it because the housing had a bunch of surface rust that needed cleaning and wanted good protection. It laid on nice and thick too so I’m hoping it’s durable

It’s no harder than rustoleum. I did weld tabs onto my bumper after I painted it and it reacts like any paint you’re welding and burning off (like if you’re doing something where it doesn’t matter if you have some welding impurities) except you can start on it rather than sanding an initial spot to get an arc.

With steel it. I’m impressed with how it handled the climate here in colorado. The tube tie ins I had coming out of the upper part of the cab didn’t rust and those tie ins been exposed for a long time. But as to durability I can’t really say because nothing really hits those tubes. That’s why I’m using the bed liner over it. The bed liner stuff is on my bumper and it’s holding up fairly well. It’s fairly priced and it covers a lot. We’ll see how the gray holds up on the links and axle.

Also, whats the positioning of your lower links? It looks like they're at like, 8 o'clock on the axle. How did you decide on where to put them?

I have this program on link suspension and plugged in some numbers to get the correct anti squat numbers. I built everything off those numbers. There’s a lot to it. I’ve posted a print up of all my numbers here. Ya just have to look through the build.
