bugging out is really what? Shtf and you’re a coward and run away instead of staying to help (fight) whatever. Cowards get their stuff taken from them and end up in a ditch with their boots stolen.

yes, make your bug out stuff. We will enjoy it.

If that’s a film, probably. But it’s a film and not reality. That’s the fantasy part of the entire bug out theatrics. It’s based from a fantasy. If you had served you probably would have referenced that instead. You would understand a couple important things.

When you are traveling alone or in convey, you are the most vulnerable. Any equipment/ supplies you are bugging out with is not even close to enough in a real scenario. Any hidden or staged ‘depots’ of supplies is not enough. And if you are actually headed to a real location like a cabin or remote shelter, it better be well supplied for months. Which means, bugging out really us just either camping until you die or relocating to a well stocked location. Which unless it’s underground and secured, it’s likely to be found.

so it’s a fantasy. The bug out bag and hiking through the city or pushing a cart isn’t really going to work in a real situation. Especially now through Covid where it was a slight inconvenience, violence was extremely high.
    Consider a real situation.

now if you actually have been trained and lived it via your occupation and practice as it’s a perishable skillset, yes, it raises your odds.
Age diminishes capability. Many fatties think they can really walk 10 miles with a ruck. Nope.

So you would realize, even in a city, you may stand a better chance by teaming with neighbors, protect the elderly that are there for certain, and have massive supplies already. Think AMCON.

This is the scenario where there is no police is law, and afterwards if order is restored, crimes may be prosecuted. So it’s not a cut and dry situation like a war zone. (Sanctioned for all those acts).

it would be very bad and most would not survive. But, people would learn what hardship really is and not think bad wifi is a trans and then want a sex change.

That went downhill quickly!I don't think that's what a bob is about. It's about being prepared in case of an emergency. And when shtf in a bad way, everyone is scared and running. The people who are prepared have a better chance of surviving.

Agreed. Bugging out is a tacticool fantasy that usually makes 0 sense, but it sure is a popular reason to buy stuff and make videos about your sweet BOV. In my area, the only reason I could see to do it is if one of the nuclear reactors within 100 miles or so of me goes down. Regular people think they are going to live like Mad Max or Eli, when really they would die of a common wound infection, exposure or dehydration after drinking tainted water. Like you said, if you've done anything like that, you know to do anything to avoid it.

I would thinks certain areas in the US would be beneficial for a bug out bag if it's prone to natural disasters like a hurricane or something. IDK. Or getting stranded somewhere and having stuff in your car to last for a night. Not everything is about war and fighting.

I never served but my dad did and always told me its better to be prepared than not.

In a world without anti biotics, any smart person would be working hard to avoid a fight. Your dad is right, definitely better to be prepared. The area you live in and most likely scenarios will dictate a lot of the details of your response, but some basics are always in play. We have "get home bags" because we live in a rural area. If I lived in a Manhattan apartment I'd definitely have a "bug out bag," which would have a lot of the same things. I just would plan on going to a better location, like a friend or family members place well outside the city.

In reality, the scenario we are talking about, "without rule of law," is a long ways off, but few people anticipate all the issues that come with loss of infrastructure.

You don't need half the stuff you think you need. Once you get rid of that half there's probably still another 100lbs of crap left that you don't need.

I heard the remake was so bad that it wasn't even worth the time. If you like that kind of stuff, check out Light of My Life-i think it was on Netflix or Prime. Pretty good "practical survival" movie.

It was as bad, if not worse, then the Point Break remake. I was mainly just being a wise ass about using any Holywood survival movies as a primer for a real scenario. l do enjoy a good bad movie though so I'll check out your recommendation.

I hope you are pleasantly surprised with Light of My Life, I think it is actually very good, but your point was not lost on me. It's about Casey Affleck trying to protect his daughter in a post-virus-that-killed-most-females world.

If you really want some bad movies to enjoy, check out any of the Nicholas Cage never released in theater Netflix movies. I have to stay up by myself to watch them because my wife refuses to.

I was talking only the extreme situation- what the instgramers covet and pretend they want.

self sufficiency it a lifestyle. I like the people on this forum for talking straight.

Is everyone in the military trained to fight to the last stand and never retreat? I'm pretty sure they aren't, and they surely aren't cowards for doing so.

This idea of staying and fighting at all costs or be labeled a coward and have their stuff stolen by the non-cowards is dripping with the "tacticool machismo"@MDFM31 was referring to.

You guys in the USA have all the fun! Country goes in the shitter, you get to fight to the death, buy bug out gear.
Meanwhile .... I’m pretty sure you can live and camp in peace for a long time, and have no issues with safety.
If you can pull into your camp spot I see no point in living like you’re homeless, eating crap food and sleeping in the mud. Camp comfy!
