Nah, I'm learning. I'm going to be setting up cameras soon on an endangered shrub for a botanist colleague of mine. They want to know what is eating it, including what's nawing on the bark. @Pibbles99 point of getting to the water source (xylem) makes sense, so this discussion is helpful.

The shrub is supposed to be bulbous, and a few are hourglass shape. Check out the one on the right, middle section is all eaten back. My guess is deer, but there is also some rodent nawing on branches as well. Cameras should tell the tale.

I'd like to know what this is (crappy pic). This was in early Oct and there were acorns and plenty of crops really close by; several deer walked straight to these green bushes and tore them up.

If nobody can tell you from the pics, download an app called “seek”. You can take photos of plants and such and most of the time it’ll tell you

Either way, one of those bushes is exactly 23 yards from a tree I hunt. Should be able to fill a doe tag fairly easily!

 

If you get a closer shot of the bush, especially of the flowers when in bloom, I could get you an identification probably.
