I tried searching but didn’t really find anything other than someone upgrading the charger; has anyone completely removed the Qi charger and swapped it with the bucket that is in the same spot on other trim levels?

I used the wireless charging for one day and realized it was all but worthless; figured if it’s possible I could add a little more storage area down there since I won’t be using the charger.

I just removed the switch (put a front camera switch in it’s place) and left the charger in place. I put my sunglasses and wallet in the cubby.

I looked into doing the same but couldn't find anything available. Maybe a small time 3d printer has something available or can make something custom?

I think you can just pop off the center console and pull out the charger and replace it with the bin. Here’s a video on how to remove the console.
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uh14L-7pyP0
The bucket you’re looking for is called a “front console” or “Box Assembly Console F”, it’s different for the manual and automatic so check for fitment. Not sure if you’ll need to buy the clips for it. Part Number is 58810-04030-C0. Here’s a link to the box assembly for auto trans without the wireless charger.
    https://parts.toyotaofbedford.com/oem-parts/toyota-front-console-5881004010c0

You can buy it or maybe find someone who would be willing to swap parts with you. Honestly the extra bit of storage isn’t really worth the trouble, it’s not that much bigger than the charging pad.

That charger is useless. I've used it maybe couple times then used it for garage remote and wallet. Too slow and useless if you have a case on it. I'd use it as is and replace the switch for something more useful.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
Why do you need to remove it?

You can still store your stuff there. Just don't turn on the button.

I've been using mine to charge a pixel 5 with a case on. It's not as fast as usb but it charges faster than the battery drains while streaming music.

Mine isn't faster than it drains. Pixel 3. It just gets hot. I'm curious about upgrading the charger though. I would be down for that if it was a clean swap

I have an iPhone 8 with a thin case and an iPhone Xs with a pretty beefy waterproof case and even the Xs charges enough to keep it from draining while streaming music over bluetooth. I am a little concerned about using wireless CarPlay with a Carlinkit or CarPlay2Air adapter - I could certainly see that draining more juice.

Does anyone have a picture of what the non charger bin looks like? I don’t use my charger and while I never planned on switching it out I’m just curious what could be gained.

It’s slightly bigger but has an angle to it, not flat like the Qi charger.

Edit - can of Coke for scale

Thanks! So it looks like maybe an inch in depth could be gained? Yeah I agree, not really worth the expense and effort.

It looks smaller to me. I remember hopping into an SR5 and thinking I couldn't even store my phone there.

Interesting thought, but the Qi charger makes a decent sunglasses holder as it is

Thanks everyone! I didn’t realize the non-Qi wasn’t significantly bigger. As many have said, I don’t think it’s worth the hassle.

Yeah, but I’m going to replace mine with a proper wireless charger.

I tried using the Qi charger on my S8 Active with a case on it. It charged, but got too hot for my liking. With the non-replaceable battery on my phone I want the battery to last as long as possible.
The compartment holds glasses and wallet now.

Just like the rest of you who didn't find it useful, I thought it was worthless. Because you have to be plugged into the vehicle in order to use Carplay anyways, which is charging at the same time, why would you want to use the built in charger. I never once used it in the 14 months i had my truck. My wife would try to use it on long trips, but gave up once she found out I had more USB ports in the center console.

The only way it would be halfway useful is if carplay was BT capable in this vehicle.

This is my setup for charging and carplay. I’m not sure why but I can’t be bothered to plug in the usb cable each time I drive somewhere. So I got a hondo garage vent mount, ram mount and pro clip holder. Now I just slide my phone into the pro clip and it’s charging and carplay. Still have to run the wire through the dash, I’m waiting till warmer weather so I don’t crack any panels.
