Hey all. I'm heading to the Missoula area from MA for 2 weeks of hiking/fishing at the end of June through first week of June. Any recommendations for overlanding/off-road trails? Stock '12 rig. Thanks!

Not familiar with the trails, but the drive up to Ovando is nice and its a great little map dot with killer fishing in the Blackfoot.

check out the Seeley Swan valley..one of my favorite areas. Lots of old logging roads up there, lots of camping, hiking and fishing too
    _MG_3666.jpg
    _MG_4754.jpg
Or the Lolo area - you'll get into ID but there is a ton of fishing along the Locsha River there
    _MG_6376.jpg
Or if you want the "River Runs Through It" tour and go where McLean wrote about I can direct you there too.

Cedar Creek Rd South of Superior is one of my new favorite spots. If you make it all the way out past Missoula Lake the road gets more technical and fun past the Idaho boarder. Good fishing out there too.

Headed to Missoula for a night. Planning on bringing my fly rod. Any recommendations on where to fish around the area?

get off the interstate at Rock Creek and head south on Rock Creek Road, lots of spots to stop and fish there, just not sure how far back the road is open this time of year. Its pretty narrow so pay attention.
or head up Hwy 200 from Bonner, there's a handful of fishing access points within the first few miles.

I was going to say Rock Creek! One of my most favorites though it is getting crowded the last few years. I have usually fished the P-burg end the last few times.

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
Lol. On one trip to MT, i said something like "i came here to fish and i'm gonna fish" while breaking ice off the eyelets of the fishing rod after each cast and noticing my waders freeze stiff within seconds of stepping out of the water.

I try to get that way once a year, beautiful area for sure. Last summer was the first time taking the camper up there so it was extra slow going - although some folks go blasting through there like theyre on the highway...
Also had the "pleasure" of being under the flight path for the Chinooks that were making water runs to dump on the forest fire that was burning up there. I was in the Bitterroot Flat CG and they were coming overhead about every 15 minutes. I think they were picking up water just a few miles south, near that one really steep switchback and the valley opens up a bit, but by the time I made it down there they had stopped flying for the day.
And I almost died on the way back out....rock slide. I was on one of the open stretches with the rocky slope right next to the road and I saw a little puff of dust and some pebbles come rattling down the hillside. I flinched and hit the brakes. As I was almost stopped this boulder the size of a dishwasher comes crashing down, skips across the road and splashes into the water - all about 15' in front of my bumper. Now if I hadn't reacted when the little pebbles came down that boulder would have smacked right into my truck! I stopped and backed up a bit, back into the tree line, got out to survey things. Nerves were a little shot after that
