What Thule Ski Rack is this and what hardware did you use to mount to the voodoo hi rise bars? I'm looking to do a similar setup.

I cut a slit in the rubber just enough to get a bolt in, and drilled holes through the base of the ski rack and bolted them to the bars.20210303_202150.jpg

I keep my board in a travel bag, and the bag goes under a wood platform. With the camper shell on, you'd never know there's gear under there.

Did you and @CrippledHo ever get into backcountry skiing? @Buttermilker , what sort of setup do you use and where did you get your gear? I’ve been wanting to get into backcountry skiing in the Eastern Sierra.

My rack came with some bolts and wing nuts to secure it to the bars...

When you open the Thule ski rack, you'll see holes at each end...

    Screenshot_20210328-100800_eBay.jpg

Put the hardware through the bed bars and through the rack, securing it with the wing nuts inside the rack...

    Screenshot_20210328-100848_eBay.jpg

Once the rack is closed and locked, the wing nuts are not accessible and the rack is secure...

    Make sense?

This was my first setup. Mobtown crossbars, a retractable bed cover, and my thule box. I hate leaving my skis out on a ski rack exposed to salt and road grime.
    20210225_164023.jpg
This is the current setup. Skis go in the pull out drawer under the platform. Switch to fishing gear come warm months.

This yr i kept a grill in the truck and would cook out in the parking lots for lunch

I have not. Have wanted to but would need all the gear to do it properly. Strictly resort and powder right now, especially after getting my new Stok AXs.

The AX is my favorite in the Laser series. But I love the Stormriders personally. I replace my daily ski each yr, and have yet to find something that puts a bigger smile on my face then them. Have had a set of SR 88's each yr for the past 4 yrs. Really want a SR102, but can't justify it for the amount I get to ski powder.

Not sure of the forum rules, but there is a great backcountry-specific shop I would recommend in Truckee that is my go-to. They carry a few good books on BC touring the Sierra Nevada range. Also a few good shops in Mammoth and another in Shasta (technically Shasta is Cascades not Sierra but I digress). Feel free to DM

Before you get out there, though, I strongly advise doing at the very least a one-night basic avalanche awareness seminar, and ideally an AAIRE Level 1 course over a weekend. This year's snowpack was pretty bad, especially in Colorado and Utah and there were an unusually high number of avy deaths, including several well-trained skiers and riders. Always helps to know before you go

Thanks for the intel and the offer. I’ll DM. And yeah, it’s been a rough season for avy rescue and recovery.

Every year? Damm, how many runs you get on em? I get about 60 runs a week and with the AXs i don't see having to replace em for a long time. I like a more narrow underfoot and groomer ski so they're about as wide as I'm getting. My gs skis have taken a back seat to them because they're so good. A real cheater ski

I ski 40-50 days a yr. I'm a long time ski shop worker. Been managing for 10 yrs, and a bunch more at sales.
I replace pretty much everything every yr, sell it, for what I paid basically and do it again the next yr.
This yr I had Stockli Storm Rider 88's, Atomic X9, Blizzard Rustler 11's all new and will be replacing with new next yr. If I hang on to the gear longer the used market value drops and won't pay for me getting a new replacement.

They'd be hitchhiking home if it was my truck haha. Using paint as a table is just pure laziness.

I run General Grabbers as they have the 3 peak snow rating. No matter how many ratings, in the right (or wrong) conditions you're sliding.
