Because I like manual transmissions. It's the American way! Covered by the "Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness" clause in the Declaration of Independence.
So you can see manual transmissions are the American Way!

It’s just fun to me, plain and simple. Blows my mind most people don’t know how to drive one and then the people that do know how but prefer an automatic? Wtf?

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Roy, first of all, I understand your emotions. Slow down, take a deep breath. I too felt the same way when I stumbled into this thread. But if you want to beat the Naysayers (those automatic transmission guys), you gotta fix your grammar first. Let's start off with addressing your tagline "It it broke", is a misspelling. And "was probably made in Texas on Friday". I don't know what "It it broke" means but I believe it was a fat finger on the keyboard but please don't ever say again "it was probably made in Texas" as in it is garbage. I am not a Native Texan but I do take offense to that comment. Texas is now my home and I absolutely love the Lone Star state.

Was your "92-93 toyota truck" a 1992 or a 1993. I know this may seem trivial but the A/T yahoos will shred that statement to threads. I'm on your side believe me, but we gotta keep it simple for those other guys that only understand "Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive".

No one can learn on a manual now, there are so few left. No begginers are allowed to drive my truck.
I saw an ad for a local driving school that teaches manual transmissions, the cars have 2 clutch pedals as well as 2 brake pedals.

This. I will never let anyone drive my truck, even if they can drive a manual.
And about the Subaru transmissions, I’ve never know someone with one that hasn’t shit the bed and need to be replaced.

Thats because Subaru transmissions are designed so that someone smoking ganja can shift them. Anyone else will surely destroy the trans. :bananadead:

Just when it gets interesting, the 3rd Gen phenomena shows up.

C'mon guys, in the end it's still just a truck, a tool like any other tool I own; built for a purpose and used for that purpose. I've tossed my keys to several of the young folks at work and told'em "take it for a spin."

If you're so worried about someone hurtin' your precious baby...maybe you didn't buy the truck you thought you did. Or you just lack confidence in it. :notsure: :boink:

Alrighty then, that'll do it for this round of GOB visits 3rd Gen Forum. Have a nice night gentlemen, I gotta get ready for work. :hattip:

    Respect :oldglory:

I thought about getting an old Forrest green subbie outback and putting vietnam era kill stickers, like " Kill em all and let God sort them out" Their brains would short circuit from the oxymoronic epiphany.:D

After 38 pages I've noticed the following basic tendencies / arguments:

    - Manual gearbox drivers are by far largely deliverate and intentional. - there are a few cases of someone ending-up with one by serendipity or similar situations, but these instances are few. M/T owners SEEK the M/T; A high proportion finds it very enjoyable at best. Most also have a real and practical reason for the preference.

    - At worst; it spares the owner of the drudgery of the auto gearbox which most find contemptible. (this is true of any A/T, not necessarily aiming at the tacoma A/T which may - or may not suck more than average.).

    - Automatic gearbox owners, on the other hand are mostly as follows:
(all in jest - but with a bit of truth!)
    - What are these 'gears' people speak of? I do not know what that stick is for... - I just push the red button and fall asleep...
    - In the very likely case that martians take my leg, I would not be able to drive my Taco, so I prefer the Auto and recommend that all others avoid manuals as well.
    - I hate life.
    - Driving pleasure? My other car is a Chrysler K car with an auto and I love it! -I may as well drive a washing machine - I do not care.
    - I have no opinions on anything whatsoever.
    - I am indeed a man and I would have bought an M/T, however: ________ (insert lame excuse / value-less plight in blank)
    - I blame my wife/ girlfriend / dog for my A/T and the revocation of my mancard.
    - Manual gearboxes cause Tacomas to fail to work on ice. Or was that snow. No, I am pretty sure I was told it was slush. No. I believe it was freezing fog on a Tuesday. or Maybe they do work??? But that is EXACTLY why I avoided the manual at all cost.
    - I prefer whatever takes the absolute least effort at all cost as I do for all life choices.

These are generally the arguments - do not mean to offend anyone - but M/T owners (of any kind) are intentional anout it. A/T owners seem to want to avoid learning to drive M/T, or prefer to avoid the effort - or simply have never driven an M/T and never even considered it, therefore it is best to avoid the unknown...
