Rack recommendations

I'm looking at getting a roof rack for my 2017 TRD Sport Double Cab. I would like something that can hold a good bit of weight for when I need extra roof storage, easily accommodate two kayaks, and around $300 or so. Recommendations on compatible kayak holders would be appreciated too.

 

At that price I think your only option is OEM

 

I've been researching roof racks as well. At the price point you've suggested, OEM, Thule or Yakima would be your only real options. Many of the aluminum racks (Prinsu, Victory, etc) are in the $600-700 range. They also won't accept bike or kayak racks as easily as the OEM, Thule or Yakima racks will. Let me know if you discover something unique. I still haven't decided on what I want. I may stick with a bed rack only since it should carry more weight.

I have the OEM folding bars and like them fine, but I wouldn’t exceed about 85lbs up there. You can see me with a two-person kayak up on bars and padded sleeves in the camping shot:


(That borrowed kayak was stored poorly and has a wonky keel, so I just used my surfboard pads on the OEM bars. You probably want J-cradles to make things proper, but up on the roof they’re annoying to leave on or remove. I often just jam my kayaks in the bed with a few moving blankets and a ratchet strap or two and let them hang out a little bit. Here’s the kid’s kayak below. The longer adult one hangs out beyond the tailgate, but I like to let things dangle.

Consider upTOP Overland. Their basic Bravo rack is around $599 and is a great option. If you want to take it a step further, for a little bit more cash, their Alpha rack has color-matched side rails.

I ended up getting an OEM (or OEM style) rack rated for up to 100 lbs. Now I just need the kayak holders...
