Typica Pan 1 temperature is 185-195°F.
Pan 2 - Torque Converter is the same or slightly higher by a degree or so if SLU solenoid is On.

Hey all, I've been running the default 04B81_Reg_33 tune from OVTune for awhile now, and it seems like folks have made some serious inroads/tweaks since then. I was wondering if you all could suggest a new tune based on 04B81_Reg_33. I'm running regular octane on 32" tires with an AT. I don't really care if it's locked/unlocked paid/free; I just want something "better." Your collective wisdom would be appreciated! :anonymous:

Well what would you be looking for?

Power? You need @PapaRee KDMax tune
    Towing/Gearlock? You need @Mooseditty17
Fuel economy? You’ll wanna look at my VR files.

There are other free options that have been posted in the 1st post in this thread.

Honestly, I’d start there and then find what you’re looking for out of your truck next.

    This is perfect thanks!
Power with my current tune is ok, but shifting could be better especially at altitude/driving over mountain passes. Gear lock would be handy, but I don't tow. I'll do some further reading of this thread.

Gearlock does come in handy for mountains and hills

I've been on both MD17 UD and KDMAX6.0. I say you go KDMAX. UD is nice but the extra low end oomph from KD is worth it. I was on UD only for the GL, but after I got it sorted out with Kreg, I went back to KDMAX6.0

I'll follow this up with the fact that i put 12 revisions into fine tuning this on my truck. Running 89 on an 87 file. Logging the load and rpm range where i would see knock feedback go all the way to -7 for extended times

Now I'm only seeing some areas are -5 in less than 2k rpm and loads of 40 and 80%

All other ranges are between -4 and 1.8

my knock learned value would be 16 one day and 21 the next.

    I'm now staying between 23 and 25 depending on air temp (50 degrees i get 25 and 70 degrees i get 23)

I think i have room to improve slightly once i knock out those other ranges.

    I'm adjusting in 1 or .5 increments

This one thing helped my truck be the smoothest it ever has especially during acceleration.

The big issue is that for the most part, this could be vehicle specific and fuel quality specific.

What tables did you modify to reduce knock feedback?

    Low knock port

Here is one of my earlier log files (unfortunately i dont have the earliest files with the worst, i didnt know how to do the logging, i was adjusting based on the live data)

So my pan temps run about 190 on the tune im running. Today I drove about 45 miles and then hit some very steep curvy roads at around 40 mph. My pan temps stayed in the 195 range but my converter got up to 210 for about ten seconds and stayed around 205 till I was able to speed up. I don't know what's normal so not sure if that's significant. No weight except my camper shell

You’re good at those temps still.

Here is my take on the TC temps. You got these temps due to values in TC lock tables. These values do shutdown SLU solenoid and prevent the fluid exchange.
These are not high. But if , at some point, you need to drive at speeds below SLU activation speeds, you may get to uncharted territories.
I have ran into these conditions at the beginning , when I tried to get a few rmps in 5th. Got TC temps up to 220.
Recently, I had to cross Seattle North-South using streets- low speed limit, congested single line roads and long hills. Came home and set TC locking back to stock.

Yes the unlocked TC generates a lot of heat. It seems to me this was only really intended for transient service by the toyota engineers. Because that is driven by mechanical design of the TC, not much you can do about it with a tune.

What kind of hp and torque numbers do people say with OBD Fusion?

    How does it calculate that?

There's no way it's accurate, right?

Can it be used to monitor increase and decrease reliably?

I just used a custom calculated PID and multiplied actual by 1.65... makes me feel like a baller in my taco.
