So you have had your mechanic try to install it first. And he couldn’t?
Then you took it to a different shop to have them install it?

If so, it’s a game of pointing fingers.
You’ll likely be better off paying out of pocket.
I value my time and metal health more.

I can’t say I’d peruse any further action.
I’d probably try to add it to the list of “lessons learned”.

My truck doesn’t have any thing but a single disc CD player.
No aux input, no hands free - nothing. I’m not adding it either.
I’ve gotten to the point in life, I don’t mess with things that don’t “really” need to be messed with.

I used to be “fix it until it’s broke”
Now, I’m “break it and then fix”

I don’t know your particular circumstances, but I rarely use cruise control.

I don’t mean this in a negative way,
But had you known what you know now, would you still want to install the cruise control?

I’ll tell you what I told @Taco critter...

If anything happens to this truck I will actively seek out an SR5 so I know it has it!

The cruise control should have cost $429 altogether; The busted clockspring and steering wheel angle sensor that nobody will take responsibility for will add another $740 to it ($851) if I went through the dealer)!

That shits wrong. If you ask me to change your watch battery and I commit to do it for ten bucks but I break your $30 watch band in the process, I’m not gonna make you pay for a new watch band. That’s not how you do business.

That’s like the dealer making you pay for a new truck if it falls off the lift when they’re changing your oil. “Sorry pal”.

What do I do? Sue them? That’ll cost even more money...

My dad wants to make a video of my mechanic replacing the parts so he can prove that these parts have to come out to install the cruise control; What’s worse is that my cruise control is under warranty through these guys, so if it’s still not working once the broken parts are replaced, I have to bring the truck back! At least if they fuck it up this time there’ll be no denying who did it...

How do I prove this place broke these parts?

And this isn’t the first time something like this has happened...

The most severe was back in October 2015; Drunk guy hit my truck and lied about what happened but luckily my insurance saw things my way and paid out without charging me a deductible or raising my rates. $2,200 in damage to truck. The prick who hit me unknowingly hired the lawyer who owned the bar where I was working at the time and he got me a nice little payout.

In April 2017, a woman flung open her door and guillotined my mirror off. I promptly threw a fit (almost got me fired because it was in front of the aforementioned bar where I worked and the woman who opened the door was the wife of a musician whose band brought a lot of money into the bad); To save face, my dad said they didn’t have to pay and bought me a new mirror himself.

In October 2017, I almost decked a BJ’s tire installer for telling me I couldn’t take pictures of my own truck from the customer waiting area while it was on the lift; A week later, when the TPMS light wouldn’t go out, I found out the prick had SNAPPED the TPMS sensor when I brought it to the dealer. Months later, I discovered that the same tire jockey had broken all four of my center caps trying to remove them when he didn’t have the proper hex key to do so; At this point I had no way of proving this. My dad felt bad because he’d been the one who convinced me to get tires at BJ’s and paid for what ended up being about $400 in damage (center caps and TPMS sensor).

I have calmed down a lot in the last three years (I did not burn my bridges with the guy at H&R Radio), but it amazes me that people still wonder why I’m so protective of my truck and tend to to lash out at people who put my truck at risk of being damaged.

Also, I’ve got full coverage on my truck, including up to $5,000 for aftermarket parts that get damaged; If my truck gets totaled in an accident and I walk away uninjured, then that is great! I can just use the insurance money to buy another truck.

However, while I would be uninjured physically, my soul would be dead; I could buy a decent Tacoma in cash with an insurance payout, but there’s a difference between a Tacoma and MY Tacoma...

I’ve had my truck since it was brand new with 20 miles on it; A decent used Tacoma would have someone else’s mileage and memories!

Yeah replacing your truck with another would just never be the same. I bought my truck 4 years ago today with 1 mile on it, sure doesn't feel like 4 years.

Hit it somewhere in Central Jersey while jamming to one of the few Paul McCartney songs I actually like!

Look at small claims court in your state. Here it's $40 to file.

Yes, but they'll pull the "his mechanic had it taken apart before we got it" routine...

Perhaps but I am only saying cost isn't a prohibitive thing probably. You'd be surprised, they might now show up and in my state that means I automatically win (default judgment).

With $740 at stake, I highly doubt they wouldn't show; All I want is the goddamn cruise control to work!

And that’s why you DIY. I thought I posted in a previous thread how to connect the cruise signal to the ECM. Not sure why you didn’t install it. When you pay a clown to do work this is what happens, welcome to the circus.

Not pretty, but I like it a hell of a lot better than that blinding green foglight switch!
